Hi all.

I have got a vibration / rumble / droney sound from the rear under light acceleration from my 2018. RS3. The noise occurs on light acceleration and on full lock (light acceleration).

If I remove my fuse for the haldex the noise disappears and the car is faultless.

this noise which I am getting is the exact same as this thread : https://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/445931/

I have been underneath with a stethoscope and I can’t replicate the noise on a ramp as there is no load.

I have the staggered Pirelli Pzero R02 tyres (rears are fairly new and fronts are close to worn out) not sure if that would cause this issue? I have read it can cause TC light issues but not these vibrations.. the only thing that makes me thing it is not tyres is it only seems to do this when warm

Haldex and diff oils changed (they were both clean so I don’t think there is any issues with the diff or haldex oil. (The filter was spotless)

Anyone else experienced the same issue and managed to sort it?

Sounds like it might be a wheel bearing to me.

If it's helpful, I had a bearing issue on my 8V whilst it was still only a couple of hundred miles old. It didn't show itself with the same symptoms as yours, but the sound seems like the common one for a bearing (perhaps a damaged CV boot/joint). The fact it's happening on full lock suggests to me it's less likely to be Haldex-related?

When I had mine looked at, I was told that it was fairly common to find tge bearings in the 8V hadn't been greased up as well as they could/should have been from the factory. They regreased mine and I never had a problem after that.

Fingers-crossed it's something similar for you.

Hi. Thanks for your response. I’m pretty certain it isn’t the wheel bearing because the fault only happens when warm and the fault disappears when the haldex is pulled. It’s not like a typical wheel bearing noise it’s more of a vibration which you can feel throughout the car. I’m thinking it’s from the haldex unit but not sure how to fully pin point / prove it. I’ve searched high and low for people with the same fault and only a few have said it may be tyres and to change to the square.
Another person has said they replaced the rear differential and haldex unit…
