Hi guys,

New to the forum after not long picking up an 2000 plate A3 1.8T to potter about in.

Anyway, I bought a new head unit and after reading numerous posts on here, believing I bought the right adapter harness and wired in what I believed to be the amp wire, I still had no rear speakers.

Decided to do some car archeology and I believe someone has removed the rear amp as I cannot find it anywhere, nor can I find a trace of wiring.

I've checked under seats, passenger door cards, rear right compartment and rear left where the sub is and nothing.

I don't even know what the amp looks like as there is barely anything available online about them.

Any assistance with this would be great, thank you.

Cheers

I assume you have the basic Audio system in this car? These vehicles have a little plastic amp on top of the subwoofer. If you run the Audi headunit does everything work properly? Note: if you have the Bose speaker system, the amp would be located in the right side (RHD driver’s side) boot compartment (when viewing from the rear outside).

Thanks so much for replying!

Yes, basic audio system in the car NON BOSE.

I didn't have an amp but a 6 disc changer, no sign of an amp. Do you have pictures of what it looks like? All he sub woofers online, do not seem to have an amp present.
Another complexity is the radio LCD screen is damaged and it is pin locked as well, so no hope of ever finding out.

If you have the CD changer on top of the subwoofer then I don’t know where the amp would have been put. Maybe the subwoofer is different on that type of setup and has the little amp built in somewhere? Or perhaps everything just runs off the headunit for that setup. I’m not familiar with that setup type, sorry. Will try and find a pic of what I’ve seen in the past.

No worries at all! This is what I am really struggling to work out here... Toying with the idea of just unpinning the rear speakers from their block and adding them into the rear speaker wires on my adapter. But from what I have seen online, I found some obscure russian site for electronics and someone stated that the sub has built in amps.... But I am not sure.

My first port of call when I get the time is to send power down to the sub/amp and see if power is actually getting there via a multi meter. Once I determine that, then perhaps I'll look at possibly getting another sub that matches my factory P/N.
