My Approved Used Warranty for the RS4 is finishing early November. Have any of you guys extended the warranty? I was considering it because of the "RS tax" on parts, but the options are quite pricey.

This basic one doesn't cover all elements of the engine, gearbox etc and its coming in at £850ish for a year with £0 excess.

My only gripes so far have been with the MMI and they have been resolved now. The pan roof creaks a bit but I've got used to that now. The engine and gearbox have been solid. The car has done 45k miles.

I know this is a "how long is a piece of string" question, but how reliable are these B9.5's? The facelifts weren't affected by the rocker arm issues and there is a TPI out for the piston skirts on the S4/5 (uses nearly the same engine as RS) but that looks to be specific to the S cars and may be limited to the US/Canada anyway. I'm happy to "over service" the car, the gearbox is supposedly "sealed for life" but will probably get the oil changed soon.

I'm wondering if it's better to save the money and put it towards a repair/maintenance when needed. What are your thoughts?

I went through this a while ago and although it is RS3 not RS4 (because I never found an RS4 that suited) Same things apply.

For some people warranty is the way to go, Audi is not a bad warranty, middle of the road in terms of price/cover. Porsche warranty is better but more expensive. The crux for me is how OEM you want to keep the car, and how long you want to keep it.

Some just want to keep it stock, have no worries and preserve the value, so warranty is the way to go however OEM warranty will run out at some point (10years IIRC) and you either go aftermarket or self insure.

For me I have always tinkered with my cars and generally if something breaks I have generally taken the opportunity to repair it better. Admittedly there is more scope to do this with the RS3 than RS4 but for me the car is a keeper and I am happy to throw some cash at it to improve it if something does break.

As you say the B9.5 doesn't have rocker issues of earlier ones and seems to be a solid car. OPFs are starting to cause a problem on some cars but I think only if thrashed on short journeys and unlikely to be covered by warranty anyway.
