Last Friday morning (12 September) me and Mrs Moz headed towards Le Shuttle for our first road trip since 2019 around France. First pit stop was Dijon, what a fantastic city and never popped up on our radar, it was supposed to be just an over night stop having driven for 13 hours. We are already planning a revisit at some point next year. Then on southwards towards the French Riviera and a small town of La Lavandou. Nice little french town and was a recommendation many years ago from a friend who is no longer with us.
From there St Tropaz, which did not disappoint. Next was Cannes and was slightly disappointed with the hustle and bustle but one night and off to Nice. Loved Nice and managed to to find a small hotel with secure parking for two nights. Arrived day 1 and had a mooch about before heading to Monaco on the train the following day. Found Monaco less expensive than I was expecting, but we did pick our places to eat and drink away from the tourist areas. Train back to Nice was rammed as the French were on strike the following day!
Because of the strike we were up early and travelled to Annacy and the lake, again what a place, so clean and welcoming. Very busy with tourist but well worth a visit. We had our first cheese fondu here and I’m a big cheese fan, but OMG it’s a lot to get through!
We then headed up to Reims, as the champagne capital expected good things. Found a nice B&B just a step too far out to walk into town but very comfortable. The town its self was filled with students from the Uni and whilst OK had an edgy vibe. We found a fantastic restaurant with excellent food. We drove into the centre on Friday, our last day, to have a look about in the daylight. The cathedral is so special and they had a rehearsal going on which filled the building.
Leaving Reims we headed back towards Le Shuttle and back to Blighty and home. 6 -7 hours on the roads in France and we hardly stopped apart from comfort breaks and a switch of driver, back on the M25 and within a hour we are at standstill. M40 had an accident so we headed cross county through Stratford upon Avon and some nice twisty roads.
A total of 2225 miles there a back. The RS3 never missed a beat, was comfortable for long periods of quick motorway driving and was handy away from them and in town. Averaged between 36 and 38 mpg per tank full and only the last skip home saw it drop to 32 mpg as away from motorways and pushing on. The only issue, if you can call it one, was a vibration between 120- 140kph on the motorway, that I suspect are my spacers, which will be coming off today. If its not that I could have a buckled wheel as I hit a pothole a while back and split the side of a tyre.
Great trip in a fantastic car and looking forward to more next year. Saw a few nice cars along the way, hope you like the pics, mostly car related!
