Audi Unveils New Design Philosophy with Concept C in Milan

Audi has revealed its Concept C design study in Milan, offering a clear vision of the brand’s future direction. The showcase signals the beginning of a new chapter for the four rings: a commitment to clarity in design, processes, and strategy as part of a broader company realignment. By stripping back to the essentials, Audi aims to create more space for innovation, technology, and timeless design leadership.

Strive for Clarity: A New Beginning

Presented under the motto “Strive for Clarity,” the event marks the next step in Audi’s transformation. The new design philosophy embraces radical simplicity, emphasizing a reduced, pure aesthetic that will distinguish the brand amid intensifying competition. Milan, a city synonymous with design and Renaissance creativity, provided the perfect stage for this bold reset.

Visionary thinking and the drive to go beyond the familiar are values Audi holds dear,” said CEO Gernot Döllner. “That’s why Italy’s design capital is the ideal place to begin this new era.”

A Design Language Focused on Essentials

The new philosophy is centered on clarity, quality, and sophistication.

Radical simplicity is at the heart of our approach. We achieve clarity by reducing everything to the essential,” explained Massimo Frascella, Chief Creative Officer. This applies equally to exteriors and interiors, with new technologies and materials deployed only where they create maximum impact. For Frascella, the goal is not only functionality, but also to evoke desire and cultural relevance.

Concept C: A Glimpse of Tomorrow

The Audi Concept C, which will also appear at the IAA in Munich, is the first embodiment of this philosophy. Its exterior design follows universal principles: reduction, geometric clarity, and vertical emphasis inspired by the Auto Union Type C racing car. The interior reflects the same vision, freeing occupants from distractions and delivering information only when needed.

“Our history is marked by bold innovation paired with design clarity,” Döllner emphasized. “Legendary models like those featuring quattro technology embody this balance of performance, technology, and timeless style.”

Beyond Design: A Company-Wide Compass

Audi’s new design approach will not only define its vehicles but also guide organizational structures and business strategy.

The way we design our cars is the way we will shape our company,” said Döllner. “Clarity will be our compass for the future.”

The Milan presentation underlines Audi’s transformation. Since 2023, the Audi Agenda has driven sweeping change. By early 2025, initiatives to strengthen innovation and ensure long-term competitiveness were already showing results—ranging from portfolio streamlining to renewed momentum in the key Chinese market. An agreement between management and the Works Council, alongside €8 billion of investment in German sites by 2029, further secures the brand’s future.

The Youngest Portfolio in the Premium Segment

By the end of 2025, Audi will have launched over 20 new models in just 24 months, giving it the youngest premium lineup. New arrivals in 2025 include the all-new A6, Q3, and the Q3 Sportback e-hybrid, which will debut at IAA.

The product offensive will continue into 2026 with a fully electric entry-level model produced in Ingolstadt, new performance cars from Audi Sport, and further expansion of electric and hybrid offerings alongside efficient combustion models. This strategy ensures strength across Europe, China, and North America during the transition to full electrification.

Innovation, Partnerships, and Formula 1

Audi is also preparing for its next innovation cycle, with partnerships—such as the Volkswagen Group’s collaboration with Rivian—designed to accelerate software development and reduce costs.

Looking ahead, Audi’s Formula 1 entry in 2026 will serve as a testing ground for cutting-edge technologies, materials, and processes.

“Preparations for our Formula 1 debut are moving at full speed,” said Döllner. “And just weeks after unveiling our new design philosophy in Milan, we’ll be offering fans an exciting first glimpse of what they can expect from us on the grid next year.”

That front end is certainly big and bold but I'm not too convinced by it. Seems to be a trend for that kind of thing just now.

Otherwise it does look striking and appealing in most respects.
