Hi guys, just looking for anybody on these forums if they have any experience with using the JBS for our audi s1 ive been told it might or might not work, any insight would be great.

Thanks.

Don't bother with a tuning box. There's loads of high quality tuners that have produced great maps for the S1. Revo for example bought one and ran it for ages to get the map nicely dialled in.

I would normally agree, but the JB4 is on another level to just a tuning box as it communicates to the car through obd, has fail safe back files, and can do alot of customisation on the go, like low torque high torque, can modify and adjust map on the go through logs, change between RON maps, alot of tuners like the jb4, but as everything with the audi s1 theirs allways little information out their for us lol.

Sounds like you've made your mind up already. Communicating through ODB is a terrible idea They plug in between the ECU and it's outputs and manipulate the output based on what the ECU asks for. It's always a compromise and always carries more risk than a proper calibrated remap. Some tuners like them as the mark up is high and they don't have to invest in expensive gear and pay license fees to apply maps.

Revo sell a device that allows selection of 3 (I think) different maps. Your choice. I know what I'd rather do.

Oh and their statement about it being removable and untraceable is false ;)

Lol, Its OBD and the jb4 capacity to read and log from the obd is revolutionary for piggyback tuning, I'm a level 3 imi qualified mechanic, I understand perfectly well how the jb4 works, I was looking for someone's experience with the MED17.1 vs MED17.5, found on the MQB platform, ours is on the pq25 and often has issues communicating with the jb4 so was looking for someone's with first hand experience, I would actually recommend searching for NVM motorsports, they have been using the jb4 for years now, and with amazing results recently with the G80 M3 for example.

You clearly don't as you're disagreeing with the people that make the thing No mention of ODB, plugs in between the ECU as I said.

Anyway, I'm out, you're either a shill for the company you mentioned, or you're on the wind up, no-one can be this dense surely?

Lol what are you talking about, who said it didn't manipulate signals, you threw me completely of when you said communicating through the OBD is a terrible idea , would you like to elaborate.

Edit, I get it, sorry, you dont understand what any of this means, so a tuning box does manipulate the signals going to the ECU, but wear the jb4 is completely different is that it actually uses your OBD aswell to actually gather the data from the ecu and can monitor the data and actually use the values 247 and if it detects anything it shouldn't be doing it it has built in safety nets that resorts the car back to map 0,

but like I said Im looking for someone whose used one on the s1 8x ecu and can give their experience, not a debate about tuning boxes

This might be a daft question but what is JBS ?

I looked it up online and it looks like another tuning box that promises allsorts but likely doesn't deliver as well as claimed, I had a differently branded one ( although they all seem to operate on basically the same principle ) for a while that kept causing my car to go into limp mode, my best advice is the same as that of Phaser that a properly installed remap is way better and in my experience has caused no issues at all, although I am open to being persuaded otherwise from people with experience of both I would only go with a remap every time in future. I can't comment directly on the JB4 or JBS unit that you asked for advice on as I have no experience of it.
