What is the difference please and why does my A6 (C8) usually have ‘TMC Pro‘ but sometimes ‘TMC’ appears instead for no apparent reason?

I think TMC-Pro provides a more comprehensive data set, however neither is a good as the real time traffic data provided via an internet connection

Thanks for that - the pro version does seem more comprehensive.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to why I get one or the other though.

It's mostly the pro version I get but occasionally it'll be the standard 'TMC' and I have no idea why?

Possibly due to strength of carrier radio signal (TMC used to use Classic FM in the UK but not sure if that is still the case)

Thanks that could explain it.

For the first time that I've noticed it just said 'Traffic' the other day and had almost no traffic information.

Luckily this was a one off though and I usually get 'TMC Pro' which I find quite good considering it is free with no subscription.

I'm still occasionally struggling with this - it seems to be pot luck whether you get 'TMC' or 'TMC Pro' and the problem is that it seems to then be stuck for the whole day.

Most of the time it automatically connects to 'TMC Pro' and gets pretty accurate/up to date traffic info which is great but occasionally it gets stuck on 'TMC' only and the information is much more limited and vague (which is problematic on a long journey when you really need the traffic info).

I'm still not sure what determines whether the car connects to 'TMC' or 'TMC Pro' and if there is perhaps a way of manually overriding this or resetting the system if I really need it for a long journey. It would be great if anyone could shed any light on this?

If you press and hold the volume knob until the screen goes blank and then shows the Audi logo, it forces a hard restart and that may restore TMC Pro for you

Thanks for the suggestion (you seem to be the only person who replies on here) but I've already tried turning the MMI on/off and unfortunately it doesn't seem to reset the TMC connection.

I've read that whether you get 'TMC' or 'TMC Pro' is down to FM/DAB radio signal strength at the time (not sure which one) so that explains the inconsistency depending on where the car is located at the start of the journey.

But as I've said previously, what's so frustrating is that when it connects to 'TMC' it then seems to be stuck on that for the rest of the journey/day (even if the car is turned off and travels to an area with better signal) and there doesn't seem to be any way of manually resetting this.
