Hi everyone,

Already own 2016 A4 2.0 TFSI, and now I'm considering buying a 2022 Audi A6 2.0 40 TFSI Sport and would really appreciate any input from current or past owners.

I'm mainly looking for feedback on two things:
  1. General Reliability/Issues – Have you encountered any common problems or things to watch out for with this model? How's it been in terms of maintenance, electronics, or anything unexpected?
  2. Fuel Economy – What kind of MPG are you getting in real-world conditions, both in city driving and on the motorway? I’ve seen the official figures, but I’d like to know what it’s like in practice.
Any insights, tips, or ownership experience would be super helpful. Thanks in advance!

I owned a 2021 40TFSi Sport Avant for 3 years, following a 40TDi and many other A6s before that.

Regarding overall reliability I had few issues, the instrument display had an error causing the left turn indicator in the dash to stay on even if the indicator was off (outside was fine so just a dash issue). Required a new display (£1200+) which fortunately was covered under warranty. A 2022 may have the virtual dash, especially if it has the upgraded MMI system. The other issue I encountered was the fuel flap sticking, had it on my 40TDi as well caused by the actuator pin jamming. Only option is to force the flap open carefully and then get the whole actuator unit replaced. Seems to be a fairly common fault on the C8 cars.

2022 car will have the MIB-3 software which is an improvement on the MIB-2 that was in the earlier cars. That said it is not by any means bug free. Make sure any car you buy has had the transmission oil replaced at 38k miles. An Audi dealer should be able to verify the service history for you if you give them the VIN for the car you are considering as the car has no physical service record book.

Regarding fuel economy, over the 3 years I owned it I averaged a little over 32mpg. Most of my mileage was short local trips in rural locations. Longer motorway trips would see mid to high 40s.

All in all I liked the A6 a lot and would have bought another were it not for the "luxury" car tax which was not justifiable given the comparatively low mileage I do and also the list price and PCP payments had gone up significantly.

that is great description and information, much appreciated. I understand you have moved to Tiguan 1.5 eTSFi, even i am confused between Audi 50 TFSIe and Audi 40 TFSI. Nearly bought plugin hybrid but extra 200kg weight and small boot put me off.

Yes my Tiguan is the mild hybrid, so not dissimilar to the 40TFSi. Going for the PHEV would have taken me over the £40k threshold so not even considered. Fairly happy with Tiguan, getting fuel consumption close to what I got with the 40TDi (42mpg), other than the inevitable software issues and gives me the space of the Avant without the cost

that is great. I have cancelled my order for used Audi A6 - 40 TFSI Sport as it was very box standard. I am currently driving A4 2.0 TFSi and has number of extras like adaptive cruise control, lane assist, wireless charging, larger MMI screen etc. What are your thoughts on Audi A6- 50 TFSIe - 2022 (plug in hybrid). It is extra 200kg and small boot. I have not idea how long these battery will hold the charge. I am thinking of keeping the car for atleast 5 years.
