Hi,
I apologise, I tried to use the FAQ page but the links were dead - so I apologise if this has been asked before.

The rear wiper on my S3 stopped functioning - it wouldn't move or would only move very intermittently. Did some searching and apparently it's common enough for it to seize up but can be cleaned, or just replaced.

So I went to take it off (following this guide) but it's been a complete saga. I got the boot trim off but could not for the life of me undo the nut holding the wiper arm on. I finally did manage to free it today, but, in doing so I think I've ****** the bolt it was attached to.

But... I just want to confirm, the actual thing it's bolted to is the spindle attached to the motor part, is that right? So basically the thing is screwed now and needs to be replaced?

Additionally, I still haven't been able to get the ****** arm off - is it now just a case of brute forcing it because it seems like it's fused to the (now broken) spindle? I suppose by breaking the arm off.

Last question:
Could anyone suggest a good quality replacement motor, and rear arm (because I think I'll have to replace that now too).

Thank you - sorry for the idiot's questions.

Fit a genuine valeo motor.

Use a wiper arm puller, job done.

Lime scale causes the lot to stick solid.

Hi, thanks, I'll get the Valeo one from Amazon then.

I do have an arm puller but the spindle you need to center the puller on is broken. I think I busted it up trying to get the nut off. I suppose nothing to lose by just forcing it off now.

I've done this twice now, I had to spray the thing with wd40 for a couple of days before it would finally come off.

Just cut of with grinder as you could risk breaking the glass, then get a new arm.

Hacksaw through the ally ring you can see when you remove the nut, it oxidises to the shaft
Very easy to cut, no issue

Thanks - I'll try that.

Ok, next stupid question, assuming I cut through that, I need a replacement to fit to the new arm - how do I know which one to get?

I still have the original nut so I'll reuse that (I suppose) but I need an "ally ring" (new term to me) to go around the spindle before the nut goes on?

a1 a3 q5 q7 loads of them fit, just pick one you like

Managed to get the wiper arm and motor off today (hacksaw was the answer like you said). Left with a nice clean hole now.

Ordered a new motor and wiper arm to hopefully fit tomorrow.

All done. Fitting it was easy, hardest part was positioning the arm in the correct place so that when the motor ran it went across the window and not onto the boot.

Thanks for your help all, really useful.

When I had my S3 8P I just disabled the rear washer and capped the line off, in Audi's great wisdom they thought it a good idea to pass water through the motor:sadlike:
