I can only pick up Classic FM and BBC Berks at the moment but not good quality. I used to be able to choose from about a dozen stations. Cannot get Radio 1 or Radio 2.

The Aerial is plugged into the back of the head unit that is a SONY CDX-M7850

Is the antenna powered? That would be the first thing for me to check but other posts are not conclusive and the Haynes manual doesn't indicate antenna is powered in its wiring diagram.

CD's play perfectly (i.e. not an issue with the speakers)

Mark

I am attaching the RADIO TLEPHONE NAVIGATION PDF for further detailed information on the wiring @MPH

Thanks MPH, that is a comprehensive document which includes everything.... So I believe m y system is the first BOSE concert sound system with the CD changer unit (which is not connected to the Sony head unit) I will need to read in more detail.

My car doesn't have CAN, steering wheel buttons or navigation - it's a good old fashioned car lol!

I see it mentions an amplifer in the boot which the Haynes manual also mentions - which i wasn't sure if it was just for the bass speaker (Haynes said nothing further)

I also need to actually check all the different speakers are actually working.

its such a tight fit behind the head unit, with so much wires and gubbins for the radio that is a potential for problems.

Thanks - i suspect it is not connected either to power or the aerial itself. I did get Radio Berkshire good and clear all of today and yesterday. (I live in Berkshire)

In my photograph I spotted that there is actually 2 aerial connectors coming up through the dashboard.

I haven't had the radio out since a month or two ago.

Check the tray above sub in the boot, the connections get brittle over time

So I had a similar issue with my aerial reception with my symphony 2 head unit, and after replacing for a DAB head unit reception was still terrible, after doing a lot of investigation you have two cables from the head unit which run to a control module above the sub in the boot, which then splits and goes to the aerial on the roof and rest go into the boot lid to amplifiers which work on the heated rear screen element, after much investigation and getting nowhere I found the easiest solution was to replace the roof aerial with an FM/DAB and wire it straight back to the head unit, which also coincided with me replacing the headliner as it had start to come down. I now get perfect FM and DAB reception and the aerial only cost about £30

aer you saying there is a normal roof type aerial that does DAB, that is similar and replaces the exsiting roof aerial? I had to have one of those ghastly windscreen stick on jobbies when i had an updated pioneer stereo (with DAB). I was told there was no other alternative like a roof type aerial. Plus i told them i diod not mind the extra cost to fit on properly if there was one.
What does yours look like and where did you buy it?

What does yours look like and where did you buy i Yes you can get a FM/DAB aerial it looks identical to the standard Audi about 2 inches shorter.

Yes, you can get a FM/DAB aerial fits on the roof. It looks identical to the standard aerial apart from being 2 inches shorter, I brought it from Amazon
