Hi all,

I was just wondering if there is anyone with a leased A3 who knows the tread depth that we can get tyres replaced at? I know they need to be done at ATS however I don’t have one nearby and the unhelpful person on the phone refused to tell me what this was for some reason?

Mine are around 2-2.5mm so getting there but still have some life in them yet!

Also random one but if anyone knows whether you can get wipers replaced that would be very helpful - think they’re starting to go too!

Thanks in advance

Ask your leasing company, not the tyre supplier. You may find there are other outfits that can supply them.

When I asked my lease company a year ago they said 1.6mm. I leased the A3 from July 2021, coming to 4 years and still have 5mm, at 14k miles. Did rotate at 8k though which helped even out the front / rear tread differences. Guess you might be closer to 18k miles with so little tread left.

I re read your post, I suppose you have the all in package where you have paid for maintenance which covers tyre replacement, then probably ask them but I think once under 3mm you should be able to start the process.

Wiper wise, Halfords? I haven't used them but I was in the shop and saw plenty. Heard Bosch AeroTwin quite good. Replaced them in a Honda Insight and was fab

When I've had lease cars in the past, it's always been 2mm.

One time, when I was about to go on a long trip, the tyre place said they couldn't replace the fronts as they were at 2.5mm, so I found a quiet car park and hooned around it for ten mins, understeering as much as possible, then went back at got them replaced as they were at 2mm :)

Not too far off haha - I've just ticked over 20k.

Yes I do have the all in package, when ringing Audi they put me straight through to ATS who refused to tell me anything until I go in, hence why I was trying to avoid a wasted journey :) although sounds like I will be close enough to getting them done now. Do you happen to know how it works - i.e. does ATS just charge Audi or do I have to ring Audi again to tell them ATS will do it.

Sorted the wipers now, was being lazy with them haha. Got some Bosch AeroTwins off Amazon and they're spot on :)

Okay thats good to know - sounds like I am in the right region then as I am driving it daily anyway so there will be more wear by the time I can pop in somewhere.

Do you know how the process works regarding the tyre places - will they just do it and then charge Audi (lease co.) or do I have to pay then reclaim? My bug bear is when you have something like this and the person in the tyre place has no idea what you're on about - don't want to look like I'm trying to fleece 2 free tyres off them  (even if in a way that is kind of what I am doing)

Good tip on the magic tread reduction haha

Edit: also any idea if you get any say in what brand they put on?

Just tell them it's a maintained lease and they'll check the tyres and call the lease company for authorisation to replace them, then just charge them directly.

The tyre place will obviously want to replace them as it's all money for them, regardless of who pays :)

I think 2 mm is ridiculously low, those tyres are next to dangerous on the wet.

Yeah this is why I am wanting them done ASAP, still above legal at the moment but we have had some wet days where I've not felt the happiest on the motorway :S

Ok perfect - thank you for the help :)
