I am trying to remove the MMI unit from the glovebox in my RS3 8v PFL to fit a wireless car play unit

I found a few YT videos, and I had these keys (image attached) already from my 8P RNSE years ago.

They look the same as the YT videos to me (

Are they wrong ? or just bad quality?

Can someone link me to the correct ones good quality ?

I chopped up a credit card into strips as I recall the RNSE used to release using that method too, but no good on the MMI in my car.

Had the glove box off pushing from the back whilst holding the keys in, it wont budge.

Thanks!

Hi Inertiauk

I have an Audi A3 8v, which, whilst obviously not the RS3, appears to have the same MMI unit installed. These are the keys I've used in the past to remove mine - they look the same as yours.

Are you definitely pushing them in far enough? They usually lock into place if I remember correctly, meaning they cannot be taken out until the MMI unit has been removed and the locking mechanism released.

Maybe trying pushing them in further or wiggling them around?

Best wishes

Luke

Thanks Luke. It is the same MMI unit for sure, that's why I posted in this section....

Those keys look exactly like.mine.and like those in the video.

They go about half way in with no resistance, then woth a bit of force thye push all the way in. They dont actually click though they just sit quite loose and they are all the way in pretty much up to the ring.

I push them and wiggle them it makes no difference. The mmi is locked in place, even pushing it from behind.

When i pull them they come straight back out with little resistance.

Im going to order another set off Amazon, these are probably ali express from years ago.

Perhaps mine are too thin and poor quality.

I would agree, they look the same but are probably a cheaper (inferior) quality. I'm pretty sure it's fairly easy when they are correct, so I imagine you'll have more luck with another set.

I picked up mine from Amazon a year or so ago, these were the ones; Amazon product

Good luck!

I had the same issue, they didn’t seem to grip no matter what I did, I just had a thought to double them up, I put 2 keys in one side they locked and pulled the one side out, removed them and put the 2 together in the other side and pulled out. I had a bag of them from amazon so next time I took it out I doubled up both sides and it pops out perfect, must be the same as me they keys were too thin to use on there own.

The new ones are definitely thicker but doubling up the cheapo ones I had made them too thick to fit.

Ive done it now. Waze / YT music from my phone on my little 5.8" pfl MIB1. It looks pretty bad . But it works including "Hey Google"

I have a galaxy fold 7 with a bigger screen so its a step.backwards in a way, but I prefer not having a phone mount on the dash.

I definitely need to upgrade the whole system to MIB2 High at some point.

I’ve though about upgrading, but the cost of buying what’s needed and installing it plus the component protection removal just doesn’t seem worth it now.

Its a dear do, Audi Retrofit guy from Coventry does it from 550, but add on the newwr b and o amp i also need. Go to.MiB2 High instead if just MIB2 (for future virtual cockpit compatability if needed) and have him come out and fit it all, its more like £1000 to £1100

I do want it though.. I think it let's my car down the most out of all the things that show its.age.

These are correct ones on pic.
I don't think that's true looking at articles and videos all over the web, yours look too long. Looking at the mech now its removed they definitely are too long.

My problem was I had the correct tools but they were so thin and cheap they were useless, I just needed higher quality ones.

Ok, no worries, its just if they are wrong then its just odd how a better quality pair of these same keys clicked into place like they belong and released the unit.

Thanks though. I got a decent full set of different keys now including the ones you pictures, will bare it in mind next time.

I have the same setup on my 2015 S-line, indeed, it's not the best to see Waze on a 5.8'' screen, it could be better on a 7''. Now, I've been reading somewhere that you can actually fit a 7'' screen off an MIB1 High to our MIB1 low, and it's just plug and play?! I wonder if this is correct, and if anyone has done it? The car is too old now, and I don't really want to go down the route of retrofitting an MIB2 due to cost. Looking forward to your replies. Cheers!

I was told its not possible. The screen resolution doesnt match the output of the HU. Maybe thst was wrong. Maybe it works with MIB1 High screens.

I went for MIB2 High in the end for the full system. The properly integrated android auto with the facelift control panel is much nicer, its worth it.

Can I ask how much it was? And does it have the B&O? cheers!
