Just called the dealer I got my Approved Used Audi from to book in for some warranty work and MOT, and they have said there is a £162 charge for the first hours diagnosis that I need to approve. If they find a fault then the diagnosis cost is covered by the warranty and I don't need to pay it, but if the fault is not covered by warranty, I need to pay it.

I've never had this before. Has any one else had this? They're claiming is "standard practice" with any Audi (new or used) warranty...

Sounds about right.

Fair enough. It's never been mentioned to me before and I've taken a bunch of previous Audi's that have been in warranty back to the dealer. This car was with the same dealer a couple months back and no mention of it then either.

Maybe they have changed their practices to inform customers so they don't argue the fee.

All VW Group main dealerships do this nowadays with warranty work, it could be fair enough if "you" are just nit picking and very unsure if anything is wrong, someone has to pay for wasted time or the included warranty charge would need to keep rising faster than it does.
On the other hand, for people that know cars and especially their car, it sounds like a slap on the face.
I've only ever used warranty if I absolutely have to, at all other times I'll work round things and sort them out myself as I want to car to stay away from workshops as going into workshops is not good for cars.
I seem to remember "educating" a VW dealership once stating that cars typically only last so many years, or so many miles, or so many visits to workshops! They sounded shocked by that, though maybe just annoyed.
