I am getting a steering judder issue and wondered if anyone else had had the same.
I have a black edition 45 TFSi running on 255/40 R20 with Pirelli P Zero on. Fully balanced and aligned, reasonably new tyres.

The issue is when turning at low speed, close to full lock or at full lock I get a JUDDER feeling and feedback. This is much more prominent when turning right - which makes me think its not a normal issue.

I have taken to VASSTECH and KWIK FIT and both cannot see anything that would be causing it, but did agree that it was doing it. Some say that its a Quattro / diff thing but I just dont believe a car such as an A6 Avant that we would see such an issue.

I have other issues at the moment and I will list them in case they are related, but not trying to start a thread on all of these in one place!

Dashboard rattle - the dreaded one behind the speedo / console.
The serpentine belt had to be replaced, and the alternator (I think!) sounds a little clicky to me (although it may be OCD!)
The ride is terrible. Very hard and even on the smoothest road it feels like driving on a bumpy road. I cant decide if this is just the S line suspension and 20” wheels.
Maps / MMI software needs updating.

Car is regularly serviced / oil changed etc.

Normal characteristic of the torsen based drivetrain. Been happening for years since the system was released on all models which use torsen.

Ok - so semi-reassured by this. When we say its normal - does that mean its not causing any issues and do I need to avoid U turns and low speed manoeuvres? or is it just the tyres slipping rather than anything mechanical being problematic?

It’s not causing issues. Just drive on it will be fine.

As you are mentioning very hard ride, are your tyre pressures correct. To high (for the load in the vehicle) and they could cause the tyres to skip in tight turns

Crabbing is characteristic on hard lock to hard lock on Quattro. You want to avoid that anyway for premature tyre scrub. What was the original tyre size from new? What are the other symptoms?

I am using the original tyre size, 255/40 R20

I am considering dropping down to 235/55 R18 to try and improve ride comfort and hopefully not give up too much on looks for the black edition!

I have ran the tyres at different pressures, currently on about 33/34 all round as it’s mainly just me in the car. Hasn’t improved that much.

I have 235/45/19 on my Sline and its a very comfortable ride even with the sports suspension.

As for the AWD system they all do it as said above so nothing to worry about there.
