I'm losing my mind trying to figure this one out.

I have a 2007 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro SE. Had some lovely vibration issues coming from the centre of the car.

Propshaft was replaced due to noisy bearing, this has rectified some of the issue but not all of it.

Garage wants to replace the centre diff as they believe the issue is stemming from the LSD.

They've quoted £1,200 - £1,500 for the part alone, so I suggested we just buy a gearbox and take the centre diff from that.

The only concern is that the part numbers they're providing to me: 01x 301 315 g doesn't fully align with my research on this car...

I was under the impression it was an 02X box, being a B7. I can't find a replacement 01X box and most of what I'm reading suggests the 01x is FWD only?

Can anyone shed some light on this? Is it possible to buy an 02x box and just replace it anyway?

I've found a good looking 02X box from another 2007 1.8T quattro on eBay but I'm hesitant to buy it

01X is FWD
02X is AWD

The gearboxes will have a 3 letter code. Ideally check that the 3 letter code of the one you're buying matches what you have. If not check that the ratios (especially final drive) matches up to what you currently have. The bolt patterns to engine and driveshafts will likely be the same but check if unsure

What's the vibration like? Above a certain speed? Only when on the power?

This sounds very similar to the current problem inflicting my 2.0 B7 quattro.
As above, the 02X is quattro, so you will need the same again and depending on what specific gearbox code it is the same or one with the same ratios etc.
I suspect having illuminated all other possible causes I'm only left with the gearbox as the source of my problem.
