Audi a3 8v air recirculation flap motor FIXED

Two years ago, I shared a video showcasing a fault I was having with the air recirculation flap (Link attached), which was a nightmare to fix, involving a dashboard removal I was told due to the motor being inaccessible.

Two years later, as I've had it with the condensation, I managed to get the stupid motor off, which involved

- Glove box removed
- MMI unit taken out
- Passenger airbag detached
- Fuse box removed
- BCM removed
- 4 hours of labor

And found the cover was partially open which led to the gears becoming loose.
I've glued the cover back and haven't had any issues anymore.

If anyone has the same fault, it can be done without the removal of the dashboard.

Hi Bush_man,

I'm looking at a similar problem here.

For me the motor moves the recirculation flat correctly but the fresh air flap doesn't open. If I stick my tiny hand and wrist in to the pollen filter enclosure I can manually open the flap, and there doesn't seem to be any resistance. Do you know if this same motor controls both flaps, or is there another motor in behind?

I've taken the glovebox out and realised access is behind the fuse box, very limited access.

Hi Arran

The recirculation motor controls the fresh air flap, which as you described can be freely moved up/down by hand.

When I took the motor out, one of the gears was loose because the motor cover was slightly open.

When you turn your car or Ac on can you hear a clicking sound coming from that area? If yes then thats defo the gear being loose and unfortunately you'll have to get the motor out and super glue the cover.
