Hi everyone,

I recently bought a 2014 A3 8V Saloon 1.4TFSI CoD.

I’ve realised at times if I go in to neutral I get some resistance when going in to drive. Other times it goes from park or reverse to drive without any hesitation. Apart from this the car seems to be driving fine and no weird sounds.

Should I be worried? What could be the cause?

All help is appreciated and thank you in advance.

Is it a serviceable box, if so check the record for that & maybe service, check of diagnostics will allow a box reset usually with vcds, that part is required when servicing aswell tbh.

all the autoboxes need service, the s-tronic needs one ( with a filter replacement) every 40K, it's expensive as the oil is expensive... your problem sounds like the service has been skipped at least once. So check the mileage, and check the paperwork for the gearbox oil change... if you can't find it might i suggest you find a VAG indy specialist or your Audi dealer to have that oil replaced asap.

Thank you for the responses. I looked in to doing the gearbox service when I first purchased the car but was told this is a sealed unit and servicing it may cause further issues.

The auto boxes on the smaller engines are dry clutch systems so they're "sealed for life".

I would take it to a specialist and get it diagnosed properly with at least a diagnostic scan.

I had a diagnostic scan done on it when I serviced it 2 months ago and there were no codes being shown. I was hoping someone on here would say that the resistance is normal but it seems it could be a problem after all :(

Any idea what it could potentially be? Cheap fix or something potentially major?

Not sure mate, not something I've experienced before. Maybe the resistance is in the gear selector and not the gearbox? If it were me, I'd take it to someone who specialises in gearboxes

jup it's mot nomal, could be someting as simple as the gear selector mechanism not working right, to a peoblem inside the gearbox itself... the latter is going to be costly (and for some the reason to part ex the car)
