I just booked my RS3 into its second free service for being delivered a year late... And Audi tell me that the brake fluid and bevel gear oil need changing.

They quoted me £90 for brake fluid change and £221.10 to swap that.

First of all is that correct? At 20k miles that bevel Box (whatever that is needs changing) and what about the price?

Yes Bevel box is now 20K in the hope they don't grenade like the 8v £ 220 sounds right as it is £50/bottle for oil (probably more now) and 1/2-3/4 hr labour. Indi could probably do it for half the price or its not a difficult DIY

what exactly is the bevel gearbox?
I thought you had been on here long enough to know that LOL :tearsofjoy:

It takes the power from the gearbox and turns it 90 degrees (using a bevel gear) before sending it down the prop shaft to the rear diff. It bolts to the gearbox under the turbo

So it’s the what exactly? The Haldex system? I just want to be clear as I am leaning towards not Audi doing this as even if £220 is fair, I would prefer to pay less at an independent.

8Y yes, any opportunity to have a go at me @8YARWY ! I am not a mechanic, I have no interest in how they work. I just like the tech. So I want to know before I go to an independent that I am asking about the right part of the car, I’m the most idiot proof way.

8Y does not have Haldex. The bevel box (Or more accurately the Bevel gear Transfer box) is attached to the gearbox directly under the turbo. Best you google it for pictures plenty out there

lol you think that’s having a go…..not even close.

You must research the cars you feature on your YouTube channel ?
Why not research the car you have more, a little knowledge can be a good thing.

Plenty of info on the 8Y drivetrain available online.
