Hi,This week I took my 2013 a4 avant 2.0 tdi fwd manual into my local garage for a new front wheel bearing n/s, front discs and pads and a front, lower, rearmost suspension arm o/s.
It drove fine before the work and didn’t rattle etc.
now since the jobs have been done I’ve got a rattle over bumps, a clunk when reversing into parking spaces and a severe vibration/wobble at motorway speeds. When I apply the breaks there isnt wobble coming through the brake pedal so I don’t think it is the discs.
Anyone have any ideas please?
Thank you.

I experienced a wobble under acceleration at motorway speeds in my B8 S4 as well as similar clunks and sounds as you describe - after 2 separate and different garage visits (where nothing was identified) I replaced the front driveshafts which came with new cv joints. That solved my issue.

From further reading, the front inner cvs are prone to failure…a tiny movement in the cv will obviously be magnified at higher speeds.

Maybe something within the cv joint has moved / become misaligned when they were doing all the wheel bearing work?

If it wasn't there before, I doubt it's the ds, unless they've damaged them, I suspect a bolt, nut hasn't been torqued properly.

Get it back in ASAP, maybe they messed up.

My 2011 S4 got an advisory for both front sides lower balljoints at its "year 6" MOT at my local Audi dealership, so I did nothing as I couldn't find any issues in that area, many many years later and so many MOTs, still no advisories, ie all MOTs clean!

I do have a complete set of new (Lemforder) arms+fixings and aim to upgrade to M14 in the case of the lower front ones - wondering now if I could save myself a lot of hassle by buying a pair of new steering knuckles/uprights from somewhere like "www.steeringknuckles.co.uk"

Thanks for the replies everyone.
On a return visit they have said that there is slight play in the same bottom arm on the other side and also in the front track control arm on the side that has ended up with a rattle. I get that the bushes will all probably be the same age and maybe disturbing them fitting one new arm has created a problem maybe but I’ve never had vibration/wobble through a car from a slightly worn front bush. It’s like I’ve got a set of wheels on that haven’t been balanced….which they have. Frustrating!

Yup - all sounds very familiar. I even put a new set of wheels and premium tyres on but my wobble continued.

All the best in your search….

ps - change the front drive shafts with new CVs….its a known fault for lots owners!
