Hi there,

I'm having problem's with my daughter's 2012 Audi A1 1.4 TFSI Sportback and wonder if anyone can help.

Recently the car has intermittently refused to start. Some days working fine and other days refusing to fire up. Power to everything, lights on the dash but completely refusing to even crank. Even the fuel pump doesn't engage. Each time it does this the only possible clue is that on the dash display it says "note - Safelock."

Researching this I can see it relates to the deadlocking system and even though I've used the key fob to disable the Safelock system the car refuses to start and the "note-Safelock" message returns.

Now we're stuck though as the intermittent problem has returned permanently and for the last couple of days the car won't fire up at all and the display says "note-Safelock" again.

I have checked the battery which can apparently be an issue with something like this, which turned out to be completely shot. I have since replaced it with a new one, but the problem still remains.

Could it be a dead starter motor? If so, surely the fuel pump would engage?

I have scanned for error codes on my Android based OBD2 reader and nothing is coming up.

I'm thinking the immobiliser is causing the car to completely shut down (hence the lack of the fuel pump powering up) and the Safelock message maybe relates to this but there aren't any clues.

Can anyone help me? Is it something glaringly obvious that I'm missing?

J:)

Car would start even if immo is not disabled as it cuts out after 3 seconds.

Check relays & fuses, something could of blown.

Years ago I had similar issues & it turned out to be a relay not pushed home fully & only started at times due to the electrical magnetic field generated on numerous attempts to start, once I pushed the relay in fully its started perfectly ever since.

If you suspect starter, then remove & put 12 volts on it to test, be careful as they kick a fair bit when running :)

Great, thank you for your advice.

Will check the relays and also the starter motor and report back :thumbs up:
