Since the configurator has been up and running it appears to be adding options nearly every week.

Bucket seats where about the first thing to appear, this week I noticed that on my 'Vorsprung' spec I now have the option to add electric tailgate opener, that was std on my current car, I'd be well pizzed off if I had ordered a car and it came without that feature as it's a god send with the dog

soon every bit will be an option... or worse a hire contract, you no pay? we turn it off! kinda how tesla is already delivering all it's cars with all options, but turns them off in the software

Turns them off :glee:Tesla enable extras all the time with regular software updates, trust me I know this owning one.
Everything just works in a Tesla, they come very well specced as standard and don’t have the awful VAG interface / bugs / app that is useless.

To be fair, some power bumps and self driving stuff is switched on OTA if you pay unless you shell out for everything at purchase.

Not sure removal of the parking sensors was a good thing, Elon's AI camera didn't see my nato tow hitch in the dark and it impaled itself enough to write it off at parking speeds backing out of a space. Funniest thing was the failure was recorded by the onboard cams!

Teslas are a mighty impressive design exercise but just not convinced, and I still like having cars I can mess with when the urge takes me. If you mess with your Tesla like you did with your 8V they would have banned you from the Supercharger network long ago :tongueclosed:

I drive one every year to see what I may be missing but nothing yet has made me look back as I get back in the 8V (or any one of my other cars either) Just not there yet

Maybe here they do i don't own one but read a few american reviews and the stuff they have to subscribe to is ridiculous even worse when you buy a 2nd hand one.

No intention of messing with anything on it though. 381kw is more than enough in this car.

What ‘stuff’ are you referring to though ?

If you mean ‘premium connectivity’ ? Then yes that’s £10 a month, not required though if owning one, I pay for it because it’s worth it to me.

And yet Audi / BMW want you to pay for extras being turned on that should be standard / are standard on other marques.

Servicing there is no stipulation to do anything, no ‘you have to take into Telsa’ unlike Audi who want to shaft you royally to have the best ownership experience / warranty, when half their dealers don’t know one end of an audi from the other.
Sure you can pay £3400 EAP or £6800 for FSD but in the uk I don’t see the added value and FSD isn’t something that interests me personally, the car is smart enough as is.
And don’t forget Tesla update regular, at least 2 a month which always bring free new features.
You’d be lucky to get any sort of software update from Vag and if so they’d want the car for a full day, if the dealer can be bothered that is.

Are they a perfect car ? No, but far less hassle than owning anything made by Audi, who in my experience want to pull your pants down at every turn.

Mweh that is why I own a b7 a4... just before they introduced the mmi and all the technology aka my car has what it has and just works.

And if I was to buy a younger model a will deal with ot than. Apart from that I don't hate tesla I just think it's to early days for electric cars. So I won't get one anytime soon.

matrix headlights software updated free of charge for example.
Possibly the only manufacturer that actually does turn things on and gives them for free.
Audi are playing with fire here charging for features which were included in previous spec cars like an elec tailgate.

And odd that the foot swipe to open is standard on the saloon but a paid option on the SB. Not impressed with that.

A friend of mine has a son that works in a BMW dealership, they have dropped prices massively, no one is buying though, too expensive and the finance is crazy payments......

I'm the same, just a bit later. Its not just engines that I like 2017. I think MIB2 was peak technology, helpful but nothing forced on you. I own every option, nothing subscribed or rented.

This was the start of things though, Audi only gave 5 map updates where VW and Skoda were for life. Thankfully there are ways around that and now one SD card updates all three of mine.

Just remember not all updates are good news. Early days of Tesla people woke up to a few OTAs that bricked their car, haven't heard of that in recent times but If UK fully adopts the 2022 speed assist laws, I will be glad I don't have a car they can get to OTA.

Just been taking notice recently the number of times the speed limit shown is wrong and how annoyed I would be in a fully compliant car that was beeping at me and fighting the throttle.

And its changed again

You can still select 'bucket seats' but the option of coloured stitching appears to have dissapeared on both of my internet browsers plus any option to change the colour of the car

I think the configurtor is being configured by a 6 year old :tearsofjoy:

Could be just the configurator, our local one is all messed up atm.

Newsflash ladies and gents, something computer-related with Audi is kaputt.

Just out of interest I am a little interested in changing my car for a FL, out of the 41 Vorsprung Sportsback's advertised on Autotrader (that seems like the dealers have over ordered this time instead of under ordering last time) None of them have the comfort tailgate,

2 local dealers have told me if I order a Vorsprung the spec will be the same as my current SB Vorsprung, why cant these sales people know their product?................hopeless as usual

They're still at it, configurator now with added style packs, one with seat belts, RS mats and dinamica steering wheel with red 12 o'clock bit (that would probably stop me adding it) the other with added vents and seat coloured bits only in red though  they will add the green version in the coming weeks to pizz all the buyers off who didn't want red and opted for either just green stitching or plain black everything

Look like they are just adding the options already there in Europe
I guess because sales figures are down, my dealer 'tried' telling me they are in huge demand when I had a tailgate strut (electronic) replaced last week, he obviously hasnt seen the couple of hundred for sale on Autotrader at large discounts

I would be so annoyed if I ordered a car only to find out options I 'may 'have' wanted had been added after my order went it

I wonder what comes next? probably the Green pack? and what will come after that?

PS: Just looked at the 'de' site and there is the option of the green pack

That is now happening with the Born, latest OTA update has bricked several cars.

mweh they clearly noticed the previous rs3 was a success so they over ordered them, honestly i wouldn't buy one that is ready to go ( that's why there are so many models on offer on autotrader, note most of them are new and have done 0 miles).

that all said the rs3 is a nice car ( regardless of the configurator malarky going on) but to small for my needs, plus I'm allegic to maximum depreciation, so i'll always get a car that's not new. what others decide to do with their hard earned is totally up to them but not one car manufacturer will get me to buy a brand new car, not even if i was to win the lottery. I rather buy a used car at the point where it'll depreciate a lot slower, or get one that will start to appreciate at that point ( point in case all the RS models reach at some point, but with the influx of the new rs3's just sitting there i wonder if that depreciation will be take it down faster than it should... i think it will.

So although the new RS3 is a good car, it seems like the wrong car to buy new period.

The main reason I have bought cars new is to add the options I want, I usually tick every box, but I do keep cars for a while (one is 40 years and counting) so depreciation isn't a big factor for me and I get to drive the car I want it not how others ordered them on a PCP/PCH deal. People that want a new car every 3 years do take the bulk of depreciation (and car tax these days)

Irony was the RS3 was the first car I bought second hand in a while but once the DAZA stopped production I was left with no choice and was lucky enough to find one exactly as I would have specc'd it before the world went mad. Tried finding a decent spec pre-opf Golf 7.5R but far too many poverty spec lease deal cars. It is easier these days with more 'packs' and less separate options but still often hard to find a full spec model.

I agree the current asking price is high for an RS3 but it is exactly in line with inflation from previous 8V prices and everything else has gone up by a similar amount. Depreciation is just a fact of life, however during the Covid bubble shortages prices levelled but things are getting back to normal now.

My 8V had lost about 1/3 in just over 2 years approved used in late 2019, I don't see the 8Y FL being much different.

There is this thing called retrofitting, I abuse it on every single car I own. It just worksout to be cheaper. Even if it means I have to replace the complete suspension, bushes and fix whateverer is wrong with that used car.

It also keeps my idle hands busy so a new car, mweh overrated in my book. Miles don't put me off either, I'm more interested in how well the maintenance of that car has been.. my current car (A4 B7 avant) was bought with problems and I almost have them all sorted out without using any garages. My sights are now set on a suv either a mk2 or mk3 audi Q7... it all depends on the price and options as I do tend to buy them with as many options as possible. Than I add what I miss and enjoy it for as long as I can, running it on an absolute tight budget. (I set one and make sure I don't overspend)

But if it wasn't for people buying new cars in the first place, I wouldn't be able to do what I do.

An RS3 will always be one of my favourite cars, I just won't be getting one ever because they are too small for my needs. I need space to carry a wheelchair 24-7, hence the reason I got the avant, but the standard height is becoming more of a problem, so SUV's are on my list now.

Ps I'm also looking at the prices of the VW Touareg and Porshe Cayenne but the Q7 is a favourite because the prices are lower and basically are better specced. Although engine wise, the Porsxhe cayenne would be way more fun, but parts are stupidly Hugh priced because it's Porsche, something I have to keep in mind.

But I do like to use the configurator every so often and than notice all the differences... from the last time I used it.

I'm with you on that, I have retrofitted everything all the way up to bigger engines, but retrofitting for me is fitting stuff that was not available at the time or off other cars. When cars turn 30 or 40 they need enough busy hands just to keep them going :tearsofjoy:

For the 8V I wanted a specific colour inside and outside, sunroof, adaptive cruise and magride amongst other things. None of those would I fancy retrofitting and certainly would cost more now than speccing new.

You have always paid for the badge, it is now an industry in itself. Audi is always a bit less 'value' than VW and then the same goes for Skoda and Seat. You have always needed deep pockets for Raging Bulls and Prancing Horses and been able to get similar performance much cheaper.

yeah i'm still not buying a car at 10 years of age... i prefer them at 15 years old... maximum depriciation has done it's job, get it as cheap as possible, spec it to my liking (sometimes it means getting a complete donor shell or car) and turn it into what i wanted in the first place. I enjoy the work, idle hands is not my thing i like to keep busy, apart from that it's so funny that when i get the cars revalued they are worth more than what i paid for them and they get insured accordingly.

As i said i enjoy the whole retrofitting and messing about with cars in general... just a shame i don't have a garage anymore as that means i have to be more picky when it comes to the used car in the first place.

and the age i enjoy getting them at means i can do stuff on a budget, i set beforehand, I clue myself up on the common problems etc before committing to a model in the first place. Just like how most want an RS3 with the DAZA engine as they are more reliable etc etc etc...

Anyways each to their own as i said i do enjoy speccing a new model up and see how much it would cost brand new, hence the reason I also noticed the configurator having so much change.
