Last night I got in the car and get a load of warning beeps on the dash, relating to rear lights, number plate lights and the middle brake light not working. To make matters worse my boot will not open, putting 2 & 2 together and I'm assuming it's a leak in the washer hose piping, the question is where? Does anyone know the routing for the pipework on the B8 Avant. Also had additional warnings for low screen wash even though I filled it 2 weeks ago. I am think with the recent cold weather here in the UK, some connection/union has failed causing a multitude of issues?

Any help would greatly appreciated.

Chances are the rear window wash pipe has broken. It's susceptible, and if you tried to use it with below freezing temperatures, then it's probably broken sending screen wash over the wiper motor and electrics. When you eventually get into the boot, then swap out. The part is made by Valeo - but will have a Audi part number. It's the Achilles heel.

You can access the screen wash reservoir and motor under the front passenger side wheel arch. I doubt it's here that you have the issue though.

Not had the situation of the tailgate not physically opening. Fold flat rear seats and crawl through into load area. On the plastic trim there should be an access panel on the plastic trim to try and manually open the tailgate lock lever.

Once tailgate is open, there are two torx screws behind the warning triangle holder, and one further torx screw in the pull down handle recess from memory. Get yourself some anti-marring trim tools for leverage. The rest is held on with clips.

This is on B9 - but you get the general idea.

Thanks for the a above info, quick update the boot latch has come back to life and is working again, however when I open and close the boot, the rear lights (LED's) are blinking, as you said water must getting in to this region.

What I've discovered when removing and refitting rear hatch trim panels, okay on a VW Polo but probably the same across the marques and models of VW Group, always make sure that the metal clips have remained on the plastic trim panel, if not recover them and refit to the plastic tangs/lugs BEFORE trying to refit the panel, maybe as a special bonus suggestion to you for the future, stick small bits of masking tape on the "outside" of that trim panel to indicate where all the tangs/lugs are AND TAKE A PICTURE OF IT - for the future. Knowing where all these tangs/lugs are should make refitting a lot easier as you will know where to whack with the palm of your hand AND know where to use the trim removal tools in future.

I know very well just how annoying it is to have a single metal tang/lug locking element moving around inside the rear hatch!! In all fairness to myself, what is keeping me from sorting that out on my wife's 2015 VW Polo is, that I've modified the rear trim panel by adding a Skoda "pull down" handle - as my wife is roughly 5 feet tall - so I can't be bothered messing around with getting that handle back in place after I've removed it as it works just fine!
