Hi All.

Got some weird stuff going on with my 8v saloon. Noticed yesterday that both heated seats have stopped working. Been in to the fuses today and checked what I think is the 30a fuse for the seat heating (F26) and it is all good. But I’ve also just noticed that the interior lights aren’t working now either. I believe they are on a different 7.5a fuse (F29) but that is also ok. I’ve done a VCDS scan and no obvious fault codes showing up.

Anyone have any ideas what is going on here?

Grab meter & start testing fuses, had one of my bcm fuses go & that took out a few things, even if car was fine so to speak.

Took me a while to find one that randomly went that I wouldn't think was related given it's not shown as part of those systems in the schematics, alas.

Just done this. Removed the glovebox (mainly because I dropped one behind it :triumph:) and tested every fuse. All seem to be fine!

Think the ones in the engine bay could have something to do with it?

Tested all the fuses including the engine bay ones, they all seem fine.

The only fault code I’m getting on VCDS is the following...

Component Protection is active in your BCM as per your log; heated seats, internal lights, screen brightness, ambient lights, and other things will be disabled.... but how did component protection trigger in your BCM? did you change the BCM?

Thanks for the message. I didn’t realise what CP was. But no, I haven’t changed anything in the car. I’ve had an issue with the MMI randomly turning off and back but that’s been going on for the last year and I’ve noticed that the MMI screen brightness has been flickering for some time now. Not managed to figure out what was causing it. The MMI is still working now though. But yeah you’re right, the ambient lighting also isn’t working along with other things.

Any idea how I resolve this?

It requires dealer level tools to remove it so only a VAG registered garage or dealer can do it, it's a 10 minute process. Though odd that it triggered in the first place, it means that the gateway no longer recognises your BCMs serial number (the gateway keeps a list of all the component protected modules that are fitted to the car and so it's treating your BCM as if it's a new module that it does not have on its list and hence triggering component protection on it).

Do you think it could be caused by it developing a fault itself? Not sure there’s any other explanation for it if not. I’ll speak to a VAG garage tomorrow and see what they suggest.
