Ecu unlock where?

Guys does anyone know who actually unlocks these ecus? I see a fee tuners are offering services but 2K to unlock on top of mapping is insane. I know BMW M3 G80 costs just over 1k to unlock and you can do post/receive service yourself rather then involving a middlemen adding their cut?

Sorry - no answers from what I've seen. It's all piggybacks or remote unlock. I was following the M3 Cutters forums back then and it took ages for the G80 M3 to get cracked. I think the encryption tech has now advanced well ahead of tuners' abilities to crack them. Given the relatively small number of 8Y RS3's out there coupled with OPFs now I don't suppose there's the same incentive as there used to be.

seems like ecu has been able to unlock – some updates from APR as they say they plan to release st1 during next couple of months.
additionally, there are some other companies that unlock the ECU for about 800 EUR in Slovenia (no further details are known)
