Has anyone successfully updated their A6 C8 maps after the initial period?

I've been trying to update my car's map software for years and I’d really like to get it sorted, particularly as the traffic info doesn’t work properly due to the outdated mapping software (I think).

The process I've tried several times is to download the latest maps from the MyAudi website, put the files on an SD card (in the correct format/order etc) and then install in the vehicle but it's never worked for me. It recognises there's an update present but then an error message appears saying: "Error: The update data are not compatible."

There's conflicting information out there as to what is causing the issue.

Some say there are a set amount of updates available (5 from new) and the car won't accept any more after that.

Mine didn't even receive these updates so it still has the original maps (apart from Scotland/Northern England which is 2021.3_PO480 (the only area where the traffic updates work). All other areas are 2018.3_P0240 and the traffic updates don’t work at all.

Others say the MH2P (MIB2 Premium) MMI system has the F0 FEC code (mine is 026000F0) which should mean it gets free lifetime updates.

I've read that you can also patch the system with MIB and then install a lifetime FEC code (023100ee) but I'm not sure if this is correct and there are no tutorials for how to do it on an A6 C8 (or even a car with MIB2 Premium) that I can find.

Any advice would be very helpful as I’d really like to get this sorted but can’t find a way.

I’ve tried asking Audi several times and they are completely useless and have no idea what the problem is or how the system is supposed to work.

To be able to download the most recent maps from your MyAudi account you need an current MyAudi subscription for which Audi charge, otherwise you jsiut get the last version of the maps that were available before the subscription ceased. MIB-2 cars require you to use a 32GB storage device (card or stick) formatted as FAT-32. Postfacelift cars will allow you to use a larger storage device (I used to use a 64Gb USB-C stick) exFAT formatted. When copying the files tot he storage device you need to copy the two directories and the file that are in the unzipped folder onto the storage device at the top level of the store device and not in a folder.

Your comments about traffic information probably have nothing to do with the maps but more to do with the lack of an AudiConnect subscription which is required to get real time traffic information (it would also allow you do an OTA map update). Once the there is no AudiConnect subscription then the navigation system reverts to the very limited TMC traffic data, you also lose the built in cellular connection for the car and it is not possible to use your phone as a mobile hotspot to connect your car to to provide this function

To be honest, as all UK C8s came with Apple CarPlay and AndroidAuto built in, for navigation I would use one of those, since their map data is far more uptodate than anything Audi will offer you

Audi Connect themselves told me the map update still wouldn't work even if I subscribed. They reckon there is a potential solution that can be implemented by a dealership but won't give me more information and when I spoke to the dealership they said they'd charge me nearly £400 to implement the recommended solution.

I've read that lifetime map updates are actually supposed to be free on this vehicle (as mentioned, apparently the 'F0' FEC code means free lifetime updates). Obviously there is contradictory information regarding that though and the downloadable updates haven't worked for me, despite many attempts using all of the correct formats etc.

The way I know the traffic info is being affected by the maps not being updated is because each time I travel up north (the only area where the maps were updated to 2021) the traffic info starts working, but it doesn't work at all down south (where the maps are 2018).

I'm thinking it might be best just to sort it out myself as it's already taken up far too much of my time speaking to Audi and researching it etc. I'm not confident with the MIB/More Incredible Bash patching option as there isn't a tutorial I can find which is specific to this system/vehicle (although I've seen quite a few comments on here saying it's worked for them).

How confident are you that temporarily subscribing to Audi Connect would make the map update work?

I'm at the stage where I'll try anything and it's certainly not beyond the realm of possibility that Audi have given me incorrect information about their own product...

Can't say for sure just going by my own experiences of what happened when the AudiConnect subscription expired on my '21 A6. As I was selling her car I just renewed for 1 month and real time traffic was restored. I also was able to update maps using the download from MyAudi without issues so don't know if it will fix your download option. A 1 month subscription to both would be a fairly low cost option to see if it resolves the issues, but to get a full map update you will need to do the MyAudi download as the OTA update only deals with the map region where you currently are. Think the the UK is split into 4 or 5 different regions

Finally the update has worked and the latest 2024.1 maps are installed for the whole of the UK and Europe - turned out to be the Mac messing with the files!

I read about this somewhere else (completely unrelated to Audi) and someone recommended using a program called 'USBClean' which cost £5 on the app store so thought I'd give it a go. It took seconds to 'clean' the USB drive (remove the additional files the Mac adds) and I couldn't believe it when it started working when I tried it in the car.

I've already found it makes a massive difference to have the 2024 maps which are at least 5 years newer than the previous ones.

Why Audi don't know about this (especially considering the majority of their customers probably use Macs) I don't know... The MyAudi website says it is perfectly fine to use a Mac to download/extract the software. On the other hand, the fact it's worked must mean the car does have lifetime map updates (presumably due to the F0 FEC code) which is great.

Glad you sorted it. Never had the issue you had and I use a Mac

I recently updated to latest maps available for my car from https://mib-helper.com/

Pretty straight forward, downloaded the maps and copied on USB stick, you get notification of update available on headunit once you connect the USB. The best part is you can still use the headunit as normal while update performs in background.

I recently purchased an Allroad 2020 model. Had map files from 2020 never updated. I purchased one year subscription with myaudi and I can confirm the following:
1- I was able to download the latest 2024 map set and update the system using a 32GB SD card
2- I now have live traffic information with Audi Connect as I believe it uses my connected mobile for data
3- I have not paid for Remote Services as I don't need them and thus I don't have the WIFI hot spot (useless and outdated function in my opinion)

Recently my audi updated the website and I still have no new updates for 2025 maps. Last I got was in 2024 Nov I believe.

My car has MIB2

hope this helps.
