B9 My new to me Navarra RS4

Not sure if my 12v front socket lights up tbh. Will check when I’m next home and let you know.
It probably won't. I've found out why it doesn't light up in the back and it probably applies to the front too.

There is a light module called "spring clip" which fits around the 12v socket. This is missing on the facelift 12v sockets, and the reason its missing is because there is no wiring to that light on the 12v socket loom! There should be 3 terminals going to the 12v socket, but in the facelift there is only 2 even though the 12v socket has 3 wires coming off it. The light unit is about £10 from the dealers (part number: 4M0919340) and looks like:

1762535178248

Now, you can access the rear of the USB socket that's in the armrest and is illuminated via pin 4. I am going to splice into pin 4 and run it to the piggy back loom that came with the USB port kit. This should give power to the lighting terminal and provide power to the light terminal on the 12v socket.

I've got a brand new, 2nd hand 12v socket with the light module coming as I deformed mine anyway. The lack of illumination shouldn't bother me, but I've seen it now

Jus fitted mine today (2020 B9.5) and my rear lighter socket has that light up part and the usb-c socket lights up also (not the USB-A though)

I guess it’s part of the comfort and sound pack

There was some minor changes on the 2021+ models or could have been impacted by the chip shortage in pandemic times too

I have the comfort and sound pack but no light up 12v sockets. I’ve bought a front 12v socket that lights up to retrofit but haven’t got round to it yet

That's a bigger problem than you think lots of cars had bits missing or 'cheaper' options fitted, whatever was on the shelf. I would be more worried about the pistons in the engine than a lit cigarette lighter. To be fair not just VAG group at this sort of thing at the time.

Yeah that is a concern, so far it doesn't look like the RS4/5 engines are affected by the piston skirt issues despite being in the same family as the S4/5 engines. Time will tell...

As far as I can see it is only the 3.0 DLZA that has had the Taiwanese pistons fitted, hopefully the DECA escaped, but as you say time will tell.

l'm interested on how these perform, my existing Audi dealer fitted ones squeal quite a bit. Had it back into them after getting them fitted and they told me the pads on RS5's & 4's do suffer from break squeal, something to do with the compound.
So if these shape up, I'll defo be looking to change my existing ones.

Keep me updated please @alps26

Update on the Brembo pads after a few months.

The squealing has gone, I've been doing lots of town driving and the OEM pads used to squeal a lot with this type of driving. Much less brake dust too. The new wheel colour is hiding any brake dust that does appear but you can tell it's there as the wheel goes matt rather than glossy.

After fitting the pads, I had a clunk from the front on the first brake after going from reverse to drive (or vice-versa), but this has gone away by itself. It was doing it for 3-4 months. Probably just the pad moving in the caliper but now its settled. My cousin has a B9 S5 and he had the same "issue" when he fitted EBC Red Stuff pads.

I MAY have a warped disc as I can sometimes feel a vibration when braking but it could just be surface rust clearing off as it doesn't do it all the time. Will have to keep an eye on it but it stops properly so not too concerned.

I'll be needing 4 new tyres next year and I'm wanting to ditch the AO marked Continental Sport Contact 6 that's on currently. I can't fault them in warm weather but in colder temperatures (around 6c) I've had some horrible understeer. I appreciate they're not cold weather tyres but expected better from a premium tyre. Had some scary aquaplaning with them too at not excessive speeds and wear is also bad.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4/4s are usually my go to, but open to suggestions on alternatives...I hear the Continental Sport Contact 7 is much improved over the 6, anyone running these?

Thanks for the feedback @alps26 another job for the better weather next year.

Not a huge deal been going on with the RS4 recently.

I've replaced the Continental Sport Contact 6 tyres with Michelin Pilot Sport 4s all round as 2 had worn on the inside to the wear bars despite being 3+mm left on the rest of the tyre. I much prefer the Michelins, grip is awesome, they're considerably more comfy than the Continentals over our lovely(!!) British roads, the trade off is they're slightly more noisy as they don't have the foam inside like the AO marked Continentals do. I do understand what the reviews said about them having a bit of softness when turning but they make up for it in grip. I looked into the Continental Sport Contact 7 but the wear is still poor and reviews said they ride a bit hard so no good for our pothole ridden roads.

I'll be putting 2x AO marked Continental Sport Contact 6 (275/30 R20) in the classifieds soon if anyone is interested? Both with 5+mm left and no repairs. The 2 unevenly worn ones were scrapped.

I swapped the rear USB ports out for 2x USB-C with PD so they charge faster than the 1x USB-A and USB-C combo. It needed some re-wiring but fairly straight forward to sort. I've got the connectors to make the front 12v Socket light up but haven't got round to it yet.

If you didn't already know (I didn't!), there is a little washer on the rear camera. Put the car into reverse and run the rear wash/wipe and you'll see washer fluid spray on the camera to clean it. RS5 probably won't have this due to no rear wash/wipe.

I would have been tempted to have a 4 wheel alignment done on renewing all 4; i've just had 2 contis done for very close to 800 and I'm going back for a check, again our roads.

Another 1st world problem sorted

IMG 4128 IMG 4129

I've somehow glazed my brake discs hence the occasional vibration I was experiencing when braking (it's gone away for the moment). Fortunately this is easier (and much cheaper) to sort than warpage. I've been trying to get them skimmed but not many places do it anymore and the ones that do can't accommodate a disc of this size.

4 wheel alignment booked in for a couple of weeks too.
