Hi all,

Had a headlight bulb go so swapped the bulbs round and no change so its likely the ballast (I've replaced one before on the other headlight so no problem here).

When removing the bulb from the other headlight the internals were moving around (loose) and pointing down, road lighting is awful with one headlight that's pointing down.

Previously I've had the lights out and noticed the white nylon threaded looking shaft that secure the projector units to the casing, has anyone else had this problem ?

Thansk

Hey Matt you probably have damaged levelling motor clips please see the upgraded version in the image is this the part you are talking about notorious for failure also sometimes the threaded shaft connection comes loose to the rubber part due to age heat etc.

Quick update on this, the first headlight motor levelling clip was fine, the projector unit had popped off the shaft so popped that back on. If it fails again I will bond it so hopping to see an improvement there.

For the ballast i discovered today that the red cap on the DS2 seperates (well my replacement did) so there was no need to cut wires or headlight unit. The only thing I cut was the cap and seal thr cable runs through that snaps into the headlight unit itself.

Just need darkness now

Hi all,

So I'm satisfied that ballast and motors are working however it seems like the headlights or at least one is aiming too high.

I understand there is adjustment in the headlight using the nylon screws however what needs to do done on VCDS prior to the adjustment ?

Had the headlight out again today and looks as though it's been adjusted so much that its pushed the internals off the threaded shaft ! So by winding it forward a bit it, its allowed me to get the rubber boot or whatever you call it over the shaft fully.

Seems like the headlight is pointing close to stock level now (fingers crossed no more drama, although MOT due next month).

Always hated these headlight units, they bring constant problems, but I suppose 20 years of ownership and 25 year old car there would be.

Seen that particular one happen several times! on the subject of headlights, these are a new set of OEM hella A3 Halogen lights with a decent H1 LED in the bowl colour temperature is 6500K and pretty decent compared to how most look?301224
H1 LED INSTALL

I always wondered what the benefit of xenon was, decent halogen bulbs aren't bad at all.

Those pictured look more bright than mine and they are osram night breakers D2S.

I am just experimenting these are my summer headlights full chrome hella halogen these are the best LEDs in the original reflector bowl the halogens I've put in so far previously had not come to this standard GE Megalight Ultra 130% H1 & H7s were pretty good for halogen bulbs now I have just put in some night breaker 220% halogens to see what they are like compared to the H7 LEDs. But soon hopefully it will be back to the full purpose-built Bi-LED projectors as I was having an issue with the flap staying down and being stuck on main beam for some strange reason
