Launched my rs3 for first time today and it lost a lot of grip I have Michelin ps4 tyres all round and although I did a launch with traction fully off it did not seem right, the front wheels seemed to spin a lot and the car moved to the left? I was wondering maybe a problem with the haldex not sending enough power to the rear, the car had only done 30k and seems fine driving normally other than sometimes the traction control light flashing when accelerating with traction control fully on (I have read into this and a lot of people say the ps4 tyres cause this) Need to try launch with traction in sport mode and see but was just seeing if anyone else had a similar issue!

What size wheels have you got? Square or staggered setup? What sizes are the PS4 front and back, tread depth?

Most tend to go PS4S as opposed to PS4 but it is not the tyre as such that causes the problem it is the mismatched rolling radius. The Michelin tend to have the greatest tread depth so make RR difference worse but any non-RO1 or RO2 tyre will do it on a staggered setup.

If you have a square setup then it is something else.

Sorry mate I do have PS4S Tyres 235/35R19 all round and the fronts have 5mm and the rears 5.5mm

If you have a standard square setup then it is not the PS4S problem you have heard about, that is only for staggered setups. 0.5mm is well within spec. :icon thumright:

Try it with TC in sport and maybe a different stretch of road, recent rain has made roads round here quite greasy. RS3 grip is good but they can't (always) defy physics. Only other thing is it stock or been messed with?

No it’s not stock it has a induction kit and Audi sport exhaust plus a remap 420bhp! And yes I will try mate just don’t like launching it often, my s3 I had before would grip so well when launched in the same place I launched it today which is what made me worry and like I say it felt like the front was spinning a lot more than the rear!

Remap can do it, many limit torque in lower gears to protect the transmission, however a lot don't. Haldex could be getting more torque than it thinks. That may be your problem but that also may mean the Haldex could be worse for wear.

Who did the remap? how much driving has it done on the remap? All by you? What is the reading from the launch counter?

First thing I would do is a proper Haldex service, oils and pump gauze clean. While you are at it DSG service and diff oils front and rear. Then see how it goes.

Could be the Haldex pump

Could be, but if it is mainly only on launch then I would try a fluid change and clean the gauze first. If it is caked in goop then I would suspect the pump may have copped it.

It usually follows the same pattern, haldex gets abuse, a lot of slip and wears the plates, fills the oil with debris, this clogs the gauze filter on the pump, it runs dry and fails

like I say it felt like the front was spinning a lot more than the rear

This is a useful read

Is it as bad as this?
