reverse sensor + potential front

I recently purchased a 2016 Audi a3 1.4 TFSI saloon with a reversing sensor already built in, however, it doesn't show up on the MMI screen to show the distance. Can I turn this on? Is it also possible to put in an aftermarket or even OEM sensor at the front?

Assuming you have a facelift model, then you can’t have the MMI display if you only have rear parking sensors.

if you add OEM-equivalent front sensors then you do get the parking display. You can buy upgrade kits from various sources. Cheapest is via AliExpress, which is where I got mine. Pays your money and takes your choice. Quite a lot of work involved in fitting, including removing front bumper and punching holes for two of the 4 sensors. You also need to fit new 8 channel PCD module, dash switch panel and wiring loom. These come with the kits. Oh yes, and you will need to do some recoding using VCDS. There are guides if you search the forum.

I bought my kit from a company on AliExpress called Aidu. Not the cheapest, but they seemed to be a large and reputable organisation, and they provided me with a download link for a good installation guide. I also got a lot of help from Potterswheel who posts on this forum. He wrote a detailed guide with lots of photos which you should be able to find if you search the archives. It covers the installation of both front and rear sensors, and I think it might also cover rear view camera.
