Right gents,

Looking for some pointers…. Had the eml come on a couple of times recently and it normally clears itself when ive had a drive and turned the car off and back on, with no dip in performance whilst on.

Got vcds on it today when it came back on whilst driving and the fault code is for 001592 - ‘throttle body actuator bank 1 implausible signal - intermittent’

Cleared the code and the eml clears.

I then later this afternoon did some output tests on the throttle body and seems happy enough - goes from 0 to 1 and back a number of times.

but when i go in to fault codes the fault code is there and it comes back immediately i clear it. This is with the engine running and with it off. But no eml on.

What’s going on here?

Vcds error 001592 - throttle body actuator bank 1 implausible signal - intermittent

Possible Causes
  1. Worn or damaged throttle body internals: the throttle body internals may be starting to wear out, causing the implausible signal.
  2. Faulty throttle flap actuators: the throttle flap actuators (specifically the left one) may be malfunctioning, leading to the error code.
  3. Throttle valve controller issue: A previous repair attempt involving the throttle valve controller (005445) and replacement of the throttle body valve resulted in more errors, including 001592.
Troubleshooting Steps
  1. Monitor the error code: Keep an eye on the error code’s frequency and behavior to determine if it’s consistently occurring or intermittent.
  2. Check throttle body condition: Inspect the throttle body for signs of wear or damage, such as stuck or seized components.
  3. Test throttle flap actuators: Verify the functionality of the throttle flap actuators, including the left one mentioned in one of the search results.
  4. Review throttle valve controller: If previously replaced, ensure it was properly installed and functioning correctly.

Thanks.

What exactly are the throttle flat actuators? Are these the the two small motors at the back of both the left and right bank of cylinders? If so, these appear to be working fine. I did an output test on these (are they not called/known as the swirl flaps?) and they were both motoring fine with a duty cycle of between 5 and 95% - car Ignition on not started.

I think I’ll have to take the throttle body of and see if electrically the flap is physically moving..

Yes they are called swirlflaps... I found in mine that the rod was broken so although the actuating worked just fine the connecting rod (on mine the rod is made from ABS plastic, made for an easy repair though) was snapped and I fixed it and made it stronger than it was before. So pull the cover off to check the rod physically... mine has a plastic intake (non turbo engine)

In my experience with the tfsi engines usually it is the connector or wiring that is the problem a simple clean of them could sort the problem out. But do check and clean the throttle valve... it could simply have to much dirt on it causing it to be off.

I’ll check a few things, cheers. Engine is the 3.0tdi bkn

A clean up should be sufficient... if not, open the throttle body motor bit... sometimes on the diesels they are drowned in oil which can cause internal intermittent connections. a good clean and some rtv can stop it from happening.

This was all cleaned about a year ago, so yeh, when I’ve opened it up it’s not too dirty in there. Tested output for it…

All looks to be fine in there. So I’ll tackle the swirl flaps tomorrow. Whilst looking at the engine from the front of the car, will bank1 be the left side bank? I’ll start with that side. I seem to remember this side being easier than passenger side (uk).

If you know where cylinder 1 is that side will be that bank 1. Just know that I haven't worked on the 3.0 tdi for at least 7 years on the account of my mate, who owned it , selling the car off.

Looks like bank 1 is the drivers side (uk), so get on with getting that off and seeing what’s what.

Yep keeps coming up With same fault code. No management light on, until this evening. But after driving with it on for ten minutes, again no change in performance, got back to the house, turned off the car, turned it back on and eml has cleared itself. Guessing the code will still be stored though. Not sure whats going on. Only thing i noticed from both banks was that bank1 looked black but dry, other side looked black but more oily and shiney. Who knows?

clean the main ground points on the engine mate, i figure you looked and cleaned both the connectors and wiring ? If yes than just clean the main ground points. starting with those on the engine, the body and the minus pole on the battery.... it could be something stupid like that. it's just to make sure... if that doesn't help at all... i'm affraid you'll have to look at possibly replacing parts, as moving parts can get worn...I did point that out earlier.

It may be a coincidence but the eml light has been intermittent since i put 1ltr of Dipetane through the car. Went for the 1 lt per half tanks and drive around at high revs for probably 200 miles.

Oww wait a minute you moved dirt about... it's not coincidental at all... mind you run the tank down and drive around without any dipetane for at least a month.. you ran it at a really high concentration, yes it can throw a spanner in the works.... but than again i have ran it pure from a cold start for a few days and never got any other result than a cleaner engine and exhaust.

correct dilution 1:200 so one litre of that stuff can do a **** load of tanks mate...

Yeh, i did read on the bottle about how much to use, but i also read on here how you’ve used it. ie 1 ltr per half tank, so just went with that. Lol. I’ll run the car for a while and see what happens. I do think perhaps it’s the dipetane thats thrown up this eml business. But also i’m not concerned that it’s done any damage. If anything it‘ll have done good, but the car just need to get over its ‘medicine’! Cheers
