I had a play with the file extension and type, sometimes it can be as simple as that... But in this case I couldn't get the file to open in any manner.

Mine is 8W0906961DG_MHI3_ER_AU_P4398.zip and 9.67GB it's the size.
I wrote to administrators here to enable private messages.
Ok! Please, tell us if red engineer menu is still present after update.
And if you can, share some pictures about version info etc. and any new funtion, If exists.
Just been trying it now mate, but both the MHI3_ER_AU_P4364 and MHI3_ER_AU_P4398 aren't recognised. Both have "Data" and "Meta" folders, but no index or metadata file in the root. I don't know if that's actually needed, but feels like it might be?
I think is your USB device.
Tray again with 4398 but USB formatted as FAT32!
Format the drive with FAT32 and decompress again like your previous photo.

Thought I'd drop a little update in here in case anyone else is giving it a go. Remarkably simple in the end, and without problem.
Car powered-on, but I don't think it needs to be "started"... It's kinda blurry now depending the powertrain. I just got in and hit the power button.
2 finger tap in the top-right of the MMI until it reboots into Engineering mode. I didn't catch the initial menus but it's pretty simple, like "Update".
The below message you'll see each time it reboots, which it does a few times during the process. Leave it be to do it's thing, the screen can also be blank for a couple of minutes as it boots. You do get a message which says "Do not interrupt this process under any circumstances". I did not.
As it's updating you'll see many progress bars. Just leave it be to do its thing.
Once it's all done you'll get a summary of what was updated. I've got about 30 minutes between the first photo I took and the last. Add a couple more on at the start and you're looking at 30-40 minutes end-to-end I think.

And the "Home" screen. I feel like this is different, but not a great deal. The MMI will download Web content/Web services a few minutes after being booted-up, then you'll get all the icons back on the Home screen like Weather, News, etc. As far as I can tell everything still works, and I had zero errors along the way.
What still doesn't work for me is the radio info in the Virtual Cockpit display. This stopped working a few weeks back; shows the radio station name and a generic icon... But not the same information as you get if you have it on the MMI e.g. song, artist, album art, etc. Small problemos really

Thanks for this, do CarPlay maps show in the virtual cockpit? I read this was one of the changes with 4398
It works for Android Auto and I've been told it works for Apple Maps, not sure about others as I use Android.
Edit: Thought I would add something, it show on the right side of the VC just how far is a turn and the directions just above your actual speed, I did think it would go in the middle of the VC like it happens with Audi Navigation but it doesn't, for me at least.
Thank you! Is the engineering menu working with 4398? Some people say it doesn’t and it needs a change with ODIS to work again but I’m not sure what change is needed

The engineering menu stops working but you can reactivate it with VCTool if you need (100 EUR) but you pay only once (per VIN).
I was checking on mib-helper.com where the latest official firmware update was: MHI3_ER_AU_P4318
Within https://mibsolution.one/#/1/9/MHI3 - APTIV/Firmware i can not find 4318 or 4398 but instead there is 4420.
Has anyone tried that? If something doesn't go as planned will I have access to engineering menu again or should I then bring the car to the workshop?

The 4420 on MIB solution currently is for Audi's from the Asian market. Don't apply it to your car if it's a European car.
Thank you for the heads up, I found today the 4398 version for EU. Just managed to extract the file so i will try tonight to flash the MMI. In the meantime has anyone noticed any significant changes like the carplay maps displaying in the instrument cluster?
Mine went into the dealer for a service and software update today but they said the update was saying "6 hours remaining".
Apparently that's quite normal so I'm having it to take it back later in the month for a full day appointment. Seems crazy.

Exactly this mate from my experience now. The circle inside the speedometer showing the distance to a junction, and slightly more in the way of road lines. Does this for me when using Google Maps on CarPlay. Nothing changing in the main VC display though. Seen a few different messages I hadn't seen before, but nothing new functionality otherwise that I've observed. Engineering mode also gone.
Side note, I think I saw this on another post somewhere too... If anyone else had the same issue as me with the VC not displaying the same thing as the screen in the middle when you have DAB radio on, it's a weird "setting". You touch the picture of the album art/cover, then scroll left/right and there's 3 different options... Something like "slideshow", "cover art", "something else". The cover art brings the VC display back. Small things.
Mine's 4572 and MMI is 3D.28-251200. Car is 2025 model year. If I have Google Maps active on Apple CarPlay the VC just says something like "CarPlay active, please see MMI". The built-in sat nav isn't activated in my car so does that affect so the CarPlay isn't showing anything navigation related on VC either?
It's a bit of a rip that though right... I'm sure I read that the car knows fully where it is in the World for other services, so having nav disabled if all the hardware is installed seems a bit mean.

It's the way things are going unfortunately. Build standard cars but pay via "functions on demand" to use them
The sat nav tech is in there, it's available in FoD store for €59 / month. A trial month costs only €1.25, so I think I'll use it the next time I go abroad with the car. Though I tested it with my previous car only to find absolutely zero reasons to pay so much for it when Google Maps via CarPlay is free, has better satelite image quality and is also easier to use. Yes it's not showing up on the VC but the way the car's own nav displays itself was gimmicky rather than clear.
Well my S3 went in for its 6 hour software update but turns out it was just a control unit update ("Alpha 90K") and not an update to the MMI as I had hoped.
I asked them to check for any MMI software updates and they looked it up on their system but said my car has the latest version so looks like I'm stuck on version 4143.
Interestingly, the 25 plate A1 I had as a courtesy car was on version 4318.

The A1 and Q3 run a slightly different version than the A3 onwards. I was able to get Audi to update me to 4398 on my RS4
I have 4572 with the new separate Audi Store with Apps bit that hooks into the MMI as well and gives you Youtube, Spotify - natively. I do have Sat Nav active on the MMI.
Google Maps and Apple Maps both show route data in the Heads up and virtual cockpit - strangely if you miss a turn the guidance drops off both and doesn't come back unless you miss another turn then it comes back again - basically it's flakey at best and not a full integration. Shame there's no Waze support at all.
Ok thanks. Seems like you've got some options I don't have, like HUD and the nav, maybe even a slightly fancier virtual cockpit. I guess those are the key options to get Google or Apple Maps to show on the virtual cockpit.
I'm not sure which or what does it to be honest wtih you, but it only shows in a third of the virual cockpit and only shows upcoming directional changes there's no map view or anything like that and on top of that its flakey at best might need a few more software updates!!
I’ve also seen some weirdness with the route data in the VC on my RS4, if I plug my phone into the armrest usb port to charge whilst using apple/google maps the route data crashes (freezes or goes away completely) on the VC.
I retrofitted rear “dumb” rear usb ports and if I use that to charge the phone, the route data shows without issue
This is not worth the own topic so I'll share it here: My previous car had a habit that in every ignition the MMI showed the next tab from what was on the screen when shut off. It didn't mean a lot but was a bit annoying. The current car never did that but always showed the screen as it was the last time - until now, when I decided to use my €1 trial month of the sat nav. After the nav licence was installed, it started doing that same thing as the old one! No software update done, just some OTA map database updates. I just hope that it goes back to the old ways when the navigation licence expires.
The navigator itself is just as useless as in the old car, I was hoping it would have been reworked a bit but no. Google Maps via Apple CarPlay is way better in every aspect.
