Good Morning,

I've had the Engine Management Light show on my 2014 A6 190PS Ultra and VCDS has produced a fault code P2002 00 [11101100] - Efficiency Below Threshold. Full VCDS readout is here:

I have reset the fault once and it has reappeared. I have put diesel and adblue cleaner in the car to help.

Initial research indicates this could be an issue with the EGR Valve and/or the EGR cooler. With this in mind, I have the following:

1) Is there a way I can test for the EGR Cooler or EGR Valve? I know VCDS has options for sensors so what should I select and what should I be looking for?

2) What does the code P2002 00 [11101100] - Efficiency Below Threshold mean (in particular the [11101100]

3) If it is the EGR Valve/Cooler, what is the best way to remove it? I have seen videos going from below and the top.

4) Linked to 3, are any specialist tools needed?

5) Linked to 3, I have seen videos about resetting parameters. What is this and how do I do it? I can get the manual from Erwin if needed.

Thanks all.

You can go around the houses with it. But it will be the EGR cooler.

£500 part and was 20 hours of labour for my local indy last month.

Thanks. Can I ask total cost? I am trying to avoid an expensive repair so if I can leave the cooler on the car and clean the holes (am thinking some rifle barrel rod and brush might work) then that is a big win for me.

No loss of performance and ironically MPG has gone up.

Total cost was £2k for me - although that was more expensive than I was expecting.

The issue is that VW/Audi located the EGR right at the back of the engine basically. So it’s a long job.

I’ve attached image of mine. The issue is the Adblue residue is caked on like concrete. I feel trying to clean it will just delay an inevitable replacement.

This has the feeling of a consumable item on this engine which is pretty crap really. I wanted to keep my A6 until it fully dies, but I don’t think a £2k repair every 80-100k miles is worth it.

Ouch. When I started seeing a days work, 20 hours etc £2000 was appearing in my mind. Like you Im keeping mine until major mechanical failure but really don't want to be spending £2K on this hencing looking to attempt myself.

I've got the 3L BiTdi (pre ad blue) I had the DPF Warning come up a couple of months ago then it went away and the coil started flashing. I scanned it and got the same code as you plus another one
P246300: Particulate Filter Restriction - Soot Accumulation Bank 1

I left it for a couple of days and cleared the code with carscanner and it was fine until this weekend when it happened again (I haven't driven that much in between though). Tried clearing the codes but they kept coming back. Left it until last night and somehow they stayed clear but the DPF Warning indicator popped again. This time I took it for a 20min run keeping it in manual at 2500-3000 rpm to try and force a regen (I read that it won't regen if the engine coil light is flashing). The warning went and no codes have popped up so far. I think I'll try this a few more times just to try and clean it out a bit more.

If it is the EGR valve/cooler does regen help it if it's blocked or does it only clear the DPF?
