Steering wheel upgrade confusion

I have seen today a flat bottom Sline steering wheel that is a Black edition A4/A5 B8 or B8.5. with air bag.
I don't have the part number of the wheel yet, it has MFSW controls but one of the right buttons has Nav on it.

It has the black connector for steering wheel controls, will it work with my B7 even without the Nav connection?
Will airbag wiring be the same.
 
Steering wheel part number, 8K041909 1CN

Airbag part number , 8R0 880 201 N 6PS

Need to know if airbag will work ??
 
I guess people are on holiday, still waiting anyone who can give advice please, or they upgraded all ready.
 
Sorry I’m going to be no help at all here… I looked into this a few years ago but gave up after finding out you can’t retain the headunit control. I’d rather have that and the standard wheel personally.

Apparently you can fit the newer A3 flat bottom wheel which does looks the business.
 
Thanks anyway, I have my eye on a B8.5 steering wheel and airbag, I no the wheel will fit, just need advise on the airbag.
 
Can you ask the seller for photos of the connector? Then compare it to a b7 one?

I'm hoping someone on here has carried this out and can advise me, I think the steering wheel connector may need some wires moving,
But which ones??
 
Can anyone help on this,, I need to decide on buying as it will be sold,
This could do with a writeup on steering upgrades.
 
I’ve just googled it, and theres loads of info on the web… I’ve not got the time to read through in details, but from skim reading id say you’ll be fine. But google is you friend.

Yes I have googled but can't find information on the airbag wiring.

Hi Rob, the part numbers are in this post, not concerned about the steering wheel as it will fit fine,
It's the airbag I need help with.
i missed them, i'll look back and check air bag compatibility.
 
Well, Had no real response to this, cannot believe no-one has carried this out???
I will have post on other forums to find info.
 
Hi Richard, sorry for the late reply, been a tad busy.
From what I've found it may not work correctly , it is OEM fitment in the following but that's not to say it won't work, just that I can't find any specific info that says it will without modifications, which may not be what you want to get into.
Audi A4 (2014-2017)
Audi S4 (2014-2017)
Audi Q5 (2014-2017)
Audi S5 (2014-2017)
Audi RS7 (2017-2018

There are fair few guys with youtbe vids doing similar retro fits but it does involve modifying a fair bit.

Hi Rob, Not afraid of do modifications, just need to no what to do?? The wheel will fit fine, but the B7 Airbag connector on the clockspring will not
accept the B8 airbag plug.
I will check out YouTube for some videos,

Just looked on YouTube but no luck, some just show the wheel on, but not how to!
Did PM NHN but no reply from him yet, he would be the guy who knows.
I believe the issue is over the airbag connector, but I cannot find how to, I read somewhere about either de-pin B7 connector and use instead of B8 connector,
or modding the B8 plug to fit.

I did a youtube search using the wording " retro fitting a 2015 audi A4 steering wheel onto a 2006 audi A4" .
 
 
Hi Thanks for this, I have already seen this but not much help, the B6 has a single stage airbag, B7 & B8 have dual stage.
That why the B8 wheel and airbag are the best choice, but still wanting info on the connector.
 
From memory they're plug and play besides the multi function steering wheel control. There a pin or two that needs switched position I believe

My car has RS3 wheel but I've had it probably 10 years now

I'd love to but I couldn't walk you through it from memory alone. But it's very easily done

You fitted an RS3 Wheel from what year? I thought the air bag was not a dual stage unit, did the airbag plug fit in the B7 plug or did youhave to trim it.
The B8 wheel is the closest to the B7, dual stage airbag, but the airbag plug may not fitt without trimming or re pinning using the B7 airbag connector.

OK, here's the procedure to rewire the harness for the TT MKII MFSW. The harness has part # 8J0 971 589 B.



MAKE SURE TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY BEFORE DOING ANY WORK WITH THE AIRBAG!



The 12 pin plug connector (yellow) on the TT MKII harness needs to have three of its wires re-assigned. Open the cover on the back of the harness plug. Looking at the plug connector from behind as if you were going to plug it in, there are 2 rows of slots, which we will number

1-2-3-4-5-6

7-8-9-10-11-12



3 through 6 are for the airbag - DO NOT TOUCH!



7 = Brown

8 = Yellow (horn)

9 = Purple

10 = Red



1, 2, 11, 12 are empty.



Push out the purple lock in the harness and then release the appropriate wire to be re-assigned.



You need to move the following wires:

move the Brown wire from 7 >to> 1

move the Yellow wire from 8 >to> 2

move the Red wire from 10 >to> 8



All MFSW controls including the horn should now work. You may also need to trim the tabs from the sides of the plug to be able to insert into the S/C ring socket. You'll know what I mean when you see it.

Yes thanks, I did read this before about fitting a TT wheel to a B7, I just need the info on the B8.5 airbag connector into a B7 .

All the wheels mentioned will fit they will bolt on.

Firstly, here is my airbag that's in my car. I photographed it before for another member when I last took it off

8J0 880 201 N is the part number

A quick update on my FBSW post, after reading the sticky about FBSW I have purchased a Mk2 TT wheel.
I have also ordered the airbag to suit and a loom to fit inplace of the airbag loom that come with the unit,
The loom will fit the B7 clockspring without modification.

I have one question if anyone can answer, in the sticky it states turn on the ignition and then disconnect the battery,
After fitting it states reconnect the battery with the ignition on ??

Yeah you don't need to do that. Every time I've taken off an airbag I've just disconnected the battery as a precaution and left the ignition alone.

I have also disconnected an airbag before without removing the battery (forgot) and it was fine.

I'd still disconnect the battery though.

Yes, that's what I was going to do anyway, just wondered why he wrote that.
If all goes well I will be selling my Sline steering wheel, very good condition for the year, it also has red stitching.
