I bought this A3 e-tron a year and a half ago. On the day I drove the car out everything was ok with the AC but a few weeks later suddenly the AC was not cooling. Took it to halfords thinking it might need re-gas but was told the pressure was ok. The garage I got the car from agreed to pay diagnostics so the diagnostics says it needs new compressor. Not sure if I believe this at this point. The cost of the “hybrid” compressor is about £2000. There is multiple threads about AC not working but all that I’ve seen was about diesel/petrol and non for hybrid electric. Has anyone else had this or know any place around Glasgow that would fix this for cheaper?

It could be all manner of things other than the compressor, especially if the AC has been regularly used which is best for longevity . Are you able to get anyone to read any fault codes on VCDS? It could be just a fuse somewhere.

I had an AC failure on my 8P TDI at 13 years old ( original compressor). The cause was a failure of both electric cooling fans behind the radiator. Something I only diagnosed when a high engine temperature warning came up on competing the ascent of a steep pass in the Lake District!

Replacement of the fans was much cheaper!

A friend who bought his 8P A3 at the same time as me had his compressor pack up after 3 years. He never used the AC as he was hell bent on getting premium economy. That cost him!

Could be as easy as needing a freon refill. If its a proper shop they'll be able to tell if it has a leak on pressure or void, if it leaks they have to find it and fix it.
