I’ve had the car for 8 years now and in that time the car has been upgrading to a Revo Stage 1, which felt like a noticeable jump in performance over standard. Then 2 years later I felt that a little more performance would make the car a nicer drive so opted for a Revo Stage 2 (https://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/387174/). With those upgrades the car has proven that it can do 0-60mph in 3.5 sec and it has achieved a 170+mph top speed with sub 12 second 1/4mile which should be adequate for any daily driver.

Another 4 years of driving with the car now at 53k miles I thought it was either time to change the car or see if some extra performance would make it feel fresh again.

Looking around and tuning options for the iron block RS3 it isn’t as popular as the later engines. Off the shelf tunning from Revo wasn’t an option as they only offered Stage 3 on the 8P using a Loba Motorsport L0500/P Turbo.

The most active development I’ve seen for CZGB engines was from HPerformance who offer a hybrid turbo kit.

They offer either a hybrid of the existing CZGB turbo or hybrid the later DAZA / DNWA turbo. Using a later engine’s turbo charger would be far more costly as this would require additional parts and labour to fit in the CZGB engine. I opted to use the existing turbo to hybrid it into TC610XT.

TC610XT will make over 500bhp so it would be a an increase over the current car’s 450bhp. As a comparison a stage 2 8Y RS3 will make over 530bhp on 102 octane fuel so getting the same amount of power out of the older car requires a bit work.

Currently the car has the following modifications to support Revo Stage 2:-
  • Airtec Intercooler
  • Milltek SSXAU587 Primary Hi-Flow Sports Cat and Turbo Elbow
  • Revo Carbon Series Intake
  • Revo Propanel Air Filter Element

The extra for upgrading it to Stage 3 will consists of the following:-
  • TC610XT turbo
  • Turboinlet TC610XT
  • High pressure fuel pump 200 bar version
  • 2 x Pressure sensors 400KPA

Hopefully the performance results is a noticeable step up from Stage 2 without compromising it’s daily usability.

The car should be booked in to have the work done this month (July 2024).

Did you go ahead with this in the end ?
Yes it’s been paid for but there have been some delays.

First one was that High Pressure Fuel pump hadn’t arrived with the stage 3 kit so it took a while to get that delivered.

The carbon clean had to be done to solve the misfire issues that the car has had to over a year.

Then garage had some issues that meant they couldn’t work on the car for a few months.

The parts were fitted, but the car couldn’t past MOT on emissions on the base tune. To get it through the MOT it had to go back to stage 2 so it passed.

After refitting the stage 3 parts and whilst tunning a rattling noise was heard. I dreaded to think what it could be as I’ve seen quotes for a timing chain at £3k with an engine out job.

The guy in the garage thinks it one on the valves isn’t closing. There isn’t any damage looking at the cylinders with a camera. It could be related to the misfire and pushing the engine with a stage 3 tune just highlighted a fault that was already there.

I’m waiting for the garage to finish their diagnoses after taking the head off to confirm what causes the noise. It probably means at least ARP Head Stud Kit with new valves and valve springs. So that’s at least another £1k of parts with the garage said they will be covering labour.

So after 7 months of not having my car I still don’t know if the stage 3 kit was worth the time and money. :sob:

Sorry to hear this, I hope the problem you have gets rectified without too much more cost / time.
