Traffic information only seems to work up north?

I'm a bit confused as I travelled up north recently and found that traffic info was suddenly appearing on my sat nav system when it doesn't normally work. I only have the basic system anyway (don't have a live subscription to Audi Connect etc) so I was surprised when it started working and it actually helped us avoid a pretty major delay.

Could this be because the car was from up north originally and the maps had automatically updated only for that region. If so then does that mean the map software has to be somewhat up to date for the traffic info to work properly?

Just to update this for anyone who is experiencing the same issue, it does seem to be the case that the basic traffic information is affected by the maps being out of date. So for me live traffic information only works in the 'England North, Scotland' region (which was updated in 2021) but I currently get no traffic data at all in any other region. Audi are currently looking into why the maps won't update via SD card from the MyAudi site and have acknowledged there is an issue.
