I would like to buy an S8 V10 (2008) but it is a "UK spec European import to Japan." The paperwork is in Japanese and is a Grade 4 import. A very reliable source says not to touch it with a bargepole as there are so many subtle differences in parts used that are impossible to buy in the UK. Others say that it's just the radio and sat nav that are different and this is easy to change, as is the speedometer that can be easily changed for a UK version. Any views / experiences to share would be welcome!

I bought a V10 via JM imports, I believe whoever is telling you the parts are different isn't entirely correct.

Yes the SatNav and radio will not work without changing hardware. However for the first few months of ownership I used a radio transmitter that plugs into the cigarette lighter (about £15 on amazon).

After that I installed a Mr12v andriod auto/Apple car play unit. Other than removing the glovebox installing that was plug and play. Spotify sounds awesome via the B&O sound system, and having waze/Google maps on an older car is useful. All other OEM aspects of the MMI still work as well (reversing camera etc)

I've done a lot of mechanical work to my S8 and I've not ran into any issues where parts are unavailable except for brake parts. As mine has the carbon ceramics it was difficult to find some pads that are suitable for use with the ceramic brakes.

I've found that parts have the same number as the European counterpart does. VCDS also works without issue.
