Hi - has anyone had this done? I have the second major service coming up and it is listed as something that needs to be replaced - I guess also, is this a requirement or do they just check it? Doesn't seem to be something covered previously in the forum. Any experience gratefully received!

Timing chain is for the life of the car or notionally 10 years I think it is. That would equate to about 130k miles. They're not a serviceable item so done on a needs basis - have you been informed of chain stretch or noise that suggests replacement?

I'm at 117K km (about 75K miles) on a 2018 and I'd seen that the recommended replacement interval was 120K kms (Audi Australia doc) for the S1. All seems fine with it, I have the second major service coming up at 120K so was wondering if I had to account for the cost of replacing. Maybe they'll just check the tensioner?

Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it. All my documentation is in German, which I can't read.

It makes me a little less worried about doing this service. I've already replaced the water pump and housing. Just worried about the timing chain because it is so critical.

You're well under the "should change just in case" mileage so yes a tensioner check would be a definite at the mileage you're at and a stretch check - can be done via VCDS so the dealer can read these params too and let you know if it's gone beyond acceptable. Otherwise if it ain't broke ;)

Sensible thoughts - much appreciated.
