8.5Y RS3

So, traded in my Daytona grey RS3 today and took this beast home instead!
At last the RS emblem has returned to the front grill, you now get thumb wheels on the steering wheel again and the power tailgate is back along with a sensor under the rear bumber to open it, result!!

Anyone seen this.https://www.topgear.com/car-news/hot-hatch/new-audi-rs3-competition-limited-a-very-expensive-hot-hatch-fancy-coilovers

Prices are getting ridiculous. I assume will be not coming to the UK anyway.

Just saw the same on YouTube. I assume it's the RS3 GT as people labelled it when spotted doing laps at the Ring

I really do not understand the swap to manually adjustable shock absorbers?

I'll compare it to road going Motorcycle shock absorber 'evolution' over the last years

High end Motorcycles have had (usually) Ohlins adjustable shock absorbers fitted for the last 20+ years, usually adjustable for compression, rebound and spring preload (virtually height or 'sag' but we wont go there here)

Maybe 15 years ago they started to become 'electronic' or at least you could alter their manual settings from the motorcycles dashboard, this stopped all that messing about with srewdrivers and 'counting clicks'

About the same time Ohlins introduced true electronic suspension that reacted to your inputs as in accelerator/brake etc and also the motorcycles attitude as in accelerating. leaning and braking, people called in 'active' but it isnt, it is 'reactive' as in it reacts to inputs from the rider and the IMU (inertial measurement unit) which are now 6 axis to alter Compression and rebound as required,
Ohlins gave you perhaps 3 electronic options, Race/Sport/Road and a true manual (electronic) setting but by dash settings for the die hards.

Their Ohlins (now version 3) has come along way, I for one cannot really fault it at my speeds and ability, the version 3 (EC3) is also getting accepted by some real fast ex racers and track day addicts............it is that good, it can also set itself differently for each corner on a race track.

Back to Audi and the manually adjustable shocks on the RS3 Competiton Limited, fronts adjustable under the bonnet and rears they are saying it's easier with the rear wheels off, do Audi honestly think that most of their customers will be able to set their car up?

The days of ''f**k me this roads bumpy i'll switch it to 'comfort mode' on the MMI will now be, 'I'll just pull over and reduce the compression setting on the front, will you jack the rear up for me and take the wheels off whilst I'm altering the front?''

I spent the best part of 30 years as a race car engineer I could understand their approach IF this car was a stripped out car for 'track addicts' but otherwise no and it would 100% stop me from buying one

So at this point it feels fairly pointless. Looks nice though... except for that green paint. I don't like that hue at all. Kyalami looks amazing, this one is just meh.

Still can't find hill hold. A press of the * button as someone suggested just brings up a list of actions that the * button could do.

P. 98 and 113 of the manual.
On the MMI Car\Settings & Service\Hold assist

Not the steering wheel star button but the one on the MMI screen ("favorites"). Or the longer way that rjn21 described.

And you need the steering wheel star to set for disabling the speed warning beep by one press. When you press it the first time it shows the list of options, once you select one the button will do the action from that on. If you want to reconfigurate it, it's possible somewhere in the car settings... but I can only see the urgent need for killing the speeding beep.

All sold apparently the UK allocation.
Not surprising with such a small allocation.

I do like the colour though - I'm sticking with Python Yellow for mine as it is my favourite from the standard colours - but I think the post FL car looks way better in dark colours - but grey is too boring and I don't fancy splashing £4k on the Merlin

Had an email this morning to say Build week 20. However he said they are more often than not coming in quicker than expected so we'll see.

So, had Brian from Alter Ego Valeting come out today to detail my RS and apply a Gtechniq ceramic coating. Would highly recommend his services and the coating he applied, it made a massive difference!!

Madness today, full on emergency brake from nowhere. Going around a bend and afaik it must have spotted pedestrians on the pavement so braked. Luckily no one behind me!

It is another reason I'm not getting anything newer, it is technically the same system that has been round for years but now it just seems to be more intrusive.

I has a Tesla slam on its brakes on the motorway and pretty much come to a stop in front of me only recently. Luckily motorway was quiet and I had enough space. Driver had hands in the air shrugging his shoulders as I passed. I put it down to low sun shining through a gantry.

Good friend updated his Porka last year and had has more of these problems with this new machine in 6 months than he ever had with his 66 plate, exact same car

I never had the Tesla 'phantom braking' in either the 2020 or 2025 model 3P's but i never really used cruise in them.
The Cupra VZ has an annoying trait of slamming on if i reverse into the garage too fast it doesn't like it at all.

Strangely I've not had any issues yet with the 5N.

I have had the red warning 'I'm about to crash' flash up more in this FL car than my previous non FL, my 22 RS3 did apply the brakes on me when someone was turning left in front of me whilst I had a Private Taxi far too close to my rear,

In my experience once the car 'decides' and applies the brakes there's very little you can do except steer, I actually floored the accelerator knowing the Taxi behind was too close, nothing accelerator wise happened

I've had the same warning once in my FL A3, just the flash and beep but fortunately it didn't do anything else. Don't remember the old ones doing it once. So yes, looks like the sensors are more nervous in the FL cars.

The emergency braking systems have saved me once from a likely sudden rear ending, braking just right before myself, and once caused me a dangerous situation that could have ended badly. I was driving on the Autobahn, left lane 150+ km/h, lots of traffic and both lanes running quite steady speed. Some **** on the right wanted faster and did an aggressive lane change right in front of me. Not slower than me, but my car slammed the emergency braking. Thank God the next car behind had kept decent distance to me and also reacted quickly. Otherwise I might not be here typing this - because of a "safety" feature of a car.

Up to now I have had 2 Emergency brake applications made by the car that 'may' or have 'come close' to causing an accident, I have the ASR plus memory that turns off stop/start/lane assist and speed bongs automatically, I wish I could add the emergency brake assist to it, maybe thats the one I need to manually turn off at every ignition on

IIRC it was a model Y if that makes any difference, but it seemed to do it at the point the gantry shadow hit the ground.

Don't think the replacement of parking sensors with cameras was a huge success. IMHO any camera system should always have a radar/doppler/em system as well especially if it can stop the car at speed.

Hows the 5N? I like them but with they were as small as the look in photographs

Can you turn it off or lower its limits? I've looked in the safety systems section of the car and it's not obvious what item is responsible for safety braking.

I already turn off SS, lane warnings and speed warnings every journey ...
