I really do not understand the swap to manually adjustable shock absorbers?
I'll compare it to road going Motorcycle shock absorber 'evolution' over the last years
High end Motorcycles have had (usually) Ohlins adjustable shock absorbers fitted for the last 20+ years, usually adjustable for compression, rebound and spring preload (virtually height or 'sag' but we wont go there here)
Maybe 15 years ago they started to become 'electronic' or at least you could alter their manual settings from the motorcycles dashboard, this stopped all that messing about with srewdrivers and 'counting clicks'
About the same time Ohlins introduced true electronic suspension that reacted to your inputs as in accelerator/brake etc and also the motorcycles attitude as in accelerating. leaning and braking, people called in 'active' but it isnt, it is 'reactive' as in it reacts to inputs from the rider and the IMU (inertial measurement unit) which are now 6 axis to alter Compression and rebound as required,
Ohlins gave you perhaps 3 electronic options, Race/Sport/Road and a true manual (electronic) setting but by dash settings for the die hards.
Their Ohlins (now version 3) has come along way, I for one cannot really fault it at my speeds and ability, the version 3 (EC3) is also getting accepted by some real fast ex racers and track day addicts............it is that good, it can also set itself differently for each corner on a race track.
Back to Audi and the manually adjustable shocks on the RS3 Competiton Limited, fronts adjustable under the bonnet and rears they are saying it's easier with the rear wheels off, do Audi honestly think that most of their customers will be able to set their car up?
The days of ''f**k me this roads bumpy i'll switch it to 'comfort mode' on the MMI will now be, 'I'll just pull over and reduce the compression setting on the front, will you jack the rear up for me and take the wheels off whilst I'm altering the front?''
I spent the best part of 30 years as a race car engineer I could understand their approach IF this car was a stripped out car for 'track addicts' but otherwise no and it would 100% stop me from buying one
