8.5Y RS3

It seems they listened to the criticism of the S3 (it was a joke compared to the golf r) and addressed it.

Maybe they will do the same with the RS3?

It really needs the Audi sport bucket option and a major interior refresh to sell imo.

I really thought it would be impossible to find a pair of those.

Ridiculous U.K. didn’t get them.

Is no one on here tempted?

I’ve agreed to buy a M3 xdrive.

Relieved I’ve found something I like for a price I can live with.

Buying cars isn’t fun like it was before covid.

No one each, no going back to ICE.

I think I'm getting to that stage myself, If I can't have the noise I want, might as well sit in silence or listen to something interesting. Don't take the 8V out these days if it is going to be sat in traffic or weaving through pot holes.

I don’t miss owning the RS3.

Under the radar, no one notices you in them either, because driving in a fast Audi people assume you are a p***s
In the EV Foot down…….gone

Rear wheel drive one of ours and is brilliant to drive on twisty roads, just grips…
£1.50 a week to run.
Happy days.

I think I just needed a change……lol

RS3 just attracts a certain type of owner now, more so the older 8V’s and everytime I see one around these parts it’s driven badly and drawing attention to itself, social media drives a lot of bad behaviour too.
Its good to go unnoticed…..

Impressive time.

Must say, the one thing I'm not sure of with the RS3 is the handling. Don't fully trust it.

Previous car was a Megane Trophy 300 and that thing was like it was on rails, gave you loads of confidence in corners.

I'm of the same opinion, I never feel 100% confident with it, the odd thing is I took a Golf R Mk8 out and that seemed the opposite, Exit out of roundabouts etc was just plant it and the car would just seem to 4 wheel 'drift' giving full confidence,

But also interesting the Golf 8R MUST be put into either a Sports mode or have the ESP turned off altogther otherwise it flashes the ESP at a lot lower threshold than the RS3 does and it's a fiddle to turn it off through the screen only dash

If there’s one thing they’ve got right is the headlights look a lot better on this facelifted version. I think the headlights on the 8Y in its current guise look cheap and cartoony.

I don’t like the new front grill though.

Same here, some of it is from a couple of decades of driving Haldex but not all.

Interesting to see if the FL is different, not that I will be buying one either way though.

You've changed man, you used to be cool!

I think the 'scene' has changed in the days of the original through to the PFL 8V I think it was a good crowd that drove and tuned them, now it is more a race for the bottom. RS3 is not alone but IMHO has taken one of the biggest hits over recent years.

1st 8.5Y RS3 to have a racechip / JB4 box on

My dealer told me last weekend he expects the facelift to come in November. Says he saw it on a factory tour last year.
Just as I was reading this thread an Autocar notification dropped into my Inbox about the FL RS3..

https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/...udi-rs3-facelift-it-claims-nurburgring-record

It says "Order books for the updated hot hatch open at the end of August. Pricing has yet to be announced but is expected to be slightly higher than the current entry point of £56,675".

Years ago the 8P ownership was great, plenty of friendly owners who’d meet up and share / help out each other.
The minute the PFL was released that changed, along with social media ‘content’ (lol) lots know it alls with other agendas buying them.
That was the rise of the ‘fastest this’ ‘first that’
and as you say a race to the bottom.
Daza attracted an immense amount of ridicule in its first few months, ‘can’t be any better’ ‘soft Aluminium block is ruining the noise’ blah blah blah.
Now go try to find a Daza car that’s not led a hard life / ran on a shoestring budget, lol you’d be better off trying to find Shergar instead.

Not sure that it is true about the DAZA cars.
Mine is 21k miles, owned from new with full Audi service history. Oh, and I'm now in my 50s. Do I fit the stereotype?

Anyway, I've been waiting for the FL 8Y as a replacement for my 8V. I was waiting for something electric but there is nothing of interest that will fit in my garage.
I'm a bit disappointed that the power has not increased over my 7 year old car. I wonder if there will be another "performance" version.

Something that nobody has mentioned is the two red buttons on the slightly odd steering wheel. Presumably for mode changes.

50s here too although 29k and 1 previous owner, however you and I and cars like ours are not that common. May be a sweeping statement but I think the demographic @8YARWY is on about lives a bit further north!

If you had to find another, you would struggle. I have looked at a few for a friend, tried to find an RS4 for myself and given up on both counts. Full Audi history does not save you either, long-life engine oil and sealed-for-life gear oil have eaten a few well looked after cars even without being mapped.

20k is when you should be changing the front diff oil. :icon thumright:

Was just about to post the same. It seems like the biggest change in visuals at least is the steering wheel which is gonna be the same they introduced in the E-Tron GT facelift. Which I thought was the first really nice looking new Audi design (including redesign) since... hmm pre-FL 8Y RS3.

But the steering wheel.

I can't understand how any car designer could have come to a conclusion that non-circular wheel would be better for serious driving. I've driven some Q4's with the same shaped steering wheel and it was painful to use. When you switch the position of your hands the wheel isn't on the same arc which is only confusing. And capacitive buttons - WTF Audi? In basic A3 you still get real buttons but in RS model that you're supposed to drive in track with gloves on, this is what you've given?

For E-Tron GT this is the only steering wheel option. Hopefully not for RS3.

Well, I'll never be the customer for one though, so this is just empty nonsense rant...

^ I am of similar thoughts, unless the steering was only to move 90 degrees (or just over) from centre like an F1 car the last thing I want is a steering wheel that you need to concentrate on when performing tightish turns etc, the round one was fine by me :)
Maybe Audi is heading this way
Audi new wheel

Mmm, can't quite believe that. Those ridiculous capacitive buttons got so much stick when they appeared in the Mk8 Golf that VW changed back to real steering wheel buttons in the 8.5.
Its like many other things that you encounter in everyday life (I could produce quite a list!), where you are left thinking "did the people who designed this ever actually try to use it?".

But it's the sad truth. The pic I posted was from E-Tron GT facelift official press picture and the wheel in the video looked just the same.

Audi have really lost the plot with the 8Y.

May as well give up now and retire the 5 Pot while we have good memories of it.

Can’t help it and I won’t apologise for it either.

Never have to go near a dealer for one car which suits me down to the ground and it’s still a quick car when needs be.

You sir sound like a rare breed of owner.
Same here I’m in my mid 50’s.

Cherish that Daza engine…….

Oh and yes you’d think a full Audi dealer service history would fill people with confidence wouldn’t you?
However my experience of em is very different recently, most techs don’t know their a**e from their elbow and will quite happily miss / forget service items while charging good money, but they aren’t on their own in this respect, it’s reported at other dealers too, mechanics ‘not’ replacing items charged for, then stockpiling the ‘new’ service parts and selling them on as a ‘bonus’.
A independent dealer friend has first hand experience of this practice.

Have you considered the new Hyundia Ioniq 5N? By far and away the most exciting car around at the moment imo. 641 bhp and no "lag" (0-62 in 3.4 sec)!
If I was convinced about full EV (I'm not, yet) and I had the sort of money required to buy/lease a new RS3 then I would definitely go for one of these.
