8.5Y RS3

Picked mine up today.
Very happy. Quite a car and a big step over my old 2017 RS3.

Lovely car mate,

I collected mine from the same dealership on Saturday, first RS car for me and also very happy with it.Only pain is the haptic buttons on the steering wheel have a tendency to do different things to what I'm wanting them to do at times, easy fix is don't use them but with perseverance I'll work out exactly where to press for the desired command.

Looks great in the sun with that blue color and black wheels! I'm not usually a big fan of blue cars but this goes to the top end of combos I've seen.

Also noticed you got the P Zeros. The cars I've seen here have had the Potenzas which I've heard are maybe good track tyres, but terrible anywhere else. (The RS3 I test drove had Continental winter tyres, which felt exceptionally good for winter tyres.)

I didn't like the Bridgestones even in my A3, switched them to Goodyears right away.

Yes, I have found the radio turned down by a few left hand bends.

Thanks. It's a very bright colour in the sun. Very dark in the shade.
There seems to be a very large amount of metal flake in the paint.

Glad you are pleased with it :grinning: although it is not exactly my cup of tea the colour combination does look good :icon thumright: Hope your 8V went to a good home, rare car these days.

I'd be interested to know what you think such a big step on from the 8V? I have driven the 8Y couple of times and genuinely not thought much of it. I am getting bombarded with 'upgrade' emails from Audi so I may have to go have a look at the FL out of curiosity.

For me, it starts with some simple things like improved seat comfort and a lower and more adjustable driving position.
On the move, despite having fixed rate dampers, I feel that there is better control and comfort in the suspension. On top of this, the roll rate in corners is much lower and that is before we get to handling.
I have B road near me that goes up and down what counts for hills in Suffolk. All the way along this are a series of 90 degree bends. The way that the car goes around these has me laughing out loud. In the 8V I tended to grimace.

There are of course the nagging, nanny state euro bings and bongs but these are easily turned off.

That's interesting, out of curiosity did your 8V have magride and supersport seats? I specifically went for normal seats as they could be had with electric control and seemed to go a bit lower but I get what you mean.

I was able to get a magride controller on the 8V and have had a good play with the settings. I find the limiting factor is the suspension travel but the 8Y has no better geometry and you have to go to the RS6 to get any appreciable improvement, (which is something I have considered). The controller has improved things even over a fully calibrated magride.

I have changed the RARB on all previous VAG cars and although I don't think the 8V saloon needs it I do have a new RARB on its lowest setting. I find it goes round corners quite predictably in all weathers but to be fair it has always done that.

I think the 8Y is fine in the dry but when grip is limited I find the shifting of grip like the back end is on a rug being pulled a bit false and disconcerting. Maybe I would get used to it but as I never really gelled with that feeling in the GTR and am fortunate to have other cars to make me laugh round bends I don't have the confidence to make the jump. I think I would miss the sound, urgency and the stability of the drive of the 8V.

Still I have a test booked in the 8Y FL when one arrives locally so I guess I will see. :grinning:

Yes, my 8V had the Supersports Seats and Adaptive dampers.
Not tried the 8Y in the wet yet.
Yes, the DAZA noise will be missed but the 8Y is far from silent.
FYI, I sold the 8V through Carwow to an Audi specialist in Buckinghamshire. Very happy and it went very well.

was this a new factory order and did you spec the electric Boot ?
Yeah, it was a factory order and at the time i presumed it would have the power tail gate as it was the Vorsprung so i didnt ask, but i was wrong.
Would have been nice to have it again but its not a problem.

Hi guys, hope you're all good. As I now have an 8.5Y Sportback Carbon Black in Daytona Grey on order I thought I'd join this forum lol. Have gone for the express red stitching and tech pro pack besides the colour, so not too crazy.

I don't often go for carbon kits on the exterior but I thought it'd jazz it up a bit since it's arguably the most special hot hatch on sale right now and it does look fairly conservative anyway. Plus the new wheels only seem to be available on the higher trim levels in the UK. So the few parts that they have done in carbon - should I worry about wear and tear over time? Chips?

My first instinct was to look into ppf'ing these few bits but I do wonder if it's worth it if you're only going to have the car for a couple of years or so.

Any thoughts?

I guess it’s more down to how much the little swirl marks on them will annoy you during ownership if you’re only going to have it a couple years. I did mine when I had it and really appreciated it on the piano black bits of the pillars because they stayed swirl free which made me happy.

Ahh okay so I suppose if it's swirls it's fine. I've heard exterior carbon trim does stand up to the test of time quite well, though some people get paranoid and have everything ppf'd. Probably not worth it if only for a couple of years, but I've asked for some quotes just out of interest so we'll see.

Nice to see so many people collecting their cars in the UK already. I thought Audi were rationing these RS models now due to the emissions thing haha. People outside Europe have been quoted all sorts of things like a year I’ve seen - namely markets like the US.

So I thought the June turnaround was fanciful when I placed my order last week but it looks like it may be a reality!

How are you finding the car? - should be picking mine up later this week!

Yes, still very happy.
It did have a bit of a brain-fart on Saturday night when it decided that the left indicators weren't working. I stopped and checked but everything was fine.
By Sunday morning, it had decided that all was good with the world.

Enjoy your pickup.

Hi guys

Can someone tell me the differences spec wise between the Carbon Black and Carbon Vorsprong ? is it just adaptive suspenion and speed limit removal. Is the adaptive worth it or must have.

I seen some members have bought through DTD can they say where the supplying dealer is? even through PM. Im located in Ayrshire for reference.

TIA

Without any extras the Vorsprung has adaptive suspension, top speed increase, pan roof, comfort key, memory drivers seat/mirrors, and drive assist package over the Carbon Black (I think that's everything).
You can add all but the first two with the Tech Pack Pro on the CB - you end up £2k ish off the price of a Vorsprung.
Personally adaptive suspension is a must, but only way for you to know is to test drive one with and one without.

I'm in Renfrewshire and ordered via DTD, the dealership is based in Suffolk and straightforward to get to via a flight from Glasgow to Stanstead then a couple of trains.

The dealership were excellent from start to finish, would definitely recommend them.

I forgot to say CB with tech pack, so adaptive and speed delimit. It would be a daily so would want adaptive.

100% agree with this. The comfort mode is the best ride I've experienced in a performance car.

Think you were one of the forum members that moved from M3 to RS3, thats the other car i'm looking at. How do you find the difference.

Thanks, I take it you had no luck securing a decent deal up here since all local dealers are same group.

I had little to no joy whatsoever with local dealers possibly due to enquiring soon after the order books opened and dealers thinking they could get enough orders without offering much off the car, most I could manage was £2.5k off which was a fraction of what DTD were offering, Glasgow Audi never even bothered to return my 2 calls when enquiring.

Problem with them (lookers) owning all the dealers in the central belt.

Does anyone know how much longer build time is with an exclusive colour.

If It helps my 8Y cam through DtD from Bury st Edmunds Audi, the irony was I live down the road and went in to try and get a deal but couldn't get close to the DtD price, did make me smile when they contacted me

Thanks good to know.

Sounds like the DTD are put out through fleet, I had similar with a BMW years ago to get the deal to where it needed to be.

Hi, I have ordered a facelift 8Y in Daytona Grey Pearl. I’m yet to see one in the flesh so to speak and not expecting delivery until much later in the year (no stock at all here in Australia, just order and wait). Trying to work out how different Daytona Grey and Daytona Grey Pearl is? Looking online, at times the Pearl looks almost silver, but not sure a lot of the time which is which. I don’t want it “too light” in colour. Does Audi still do standard Daytona Grey, or is it all Pearl these days? Trying to figure out what cars are what when looking online.

I’ve wanted a Daytona Grey RS3 for a very long time, just hope it’s not too bright?

Ascari Blue has also recently caught my eye, it looks anything from dark blue to bright blue in different light though and I’m somewhat tempTed to change my order, given I haven’t seen either colour though, really just hoping for the best.

Daytona has always been a 'pearl' colour even as far back as the 8V. There has not been a pearl and non-pearl Daytona that I have seen listed.

Ah good to know, I’ve only heard of Daytona Grey before, the “Pearl” was something new to me, a bit of googling suggested they were two different colours that Audi used.

Because of the 'pearl' nature of it the colour changes depending on how the light strikes it. Here's a couple examples of my 8Y in different light to show what I mean.

Was there some rumours or discussion that Audi was going to start putting the front RS3 badge back on again or am I making that up?

I've got an offer just over £200 less than DTD from a dealer within an hour, so just need to finalise spec ... and have one last look at M3 to decide.

From one of the local dealers? Their stance may have softened now due to the amount of cars available, I enquired as order books opened so they weren't willing to do a decent discount.

I had a 2023 M3 X-drive, great car and despite X-drive still unpredictable at times on wet roads due to rear wheel bias.

BMW dealerships in Scotland were definitely competitive when it came to discounting M cars or M lites.

Yes, the east side of the M8. So an hour away for me, better option that down south.

I have a long history of purchases from DP BMW so should be able to get a good deal, but don't like the stuck on screen, much prefer a normal dash.

Think the RS will have better residuals compared to the M3, which is another consideration.

I never tried any dealerships in that area, handy to know for future reference though and I agree RS3 will have better residuals, are you in the West then since purchasing from DP previously?

With regards to the continuous screen I liked it, didn't appear stuck on top of the dash like Audi do, was responsive, easy to use and has great clarity.

RS definitely easier to use as a daily and as good as the M seats are I find the RS seats more comfortable, M3 was brutal in a straight line though.
