8.5Y RS3

Thats the scary thing for me across just about every manufacturers range, there is just nothing out there that appeals to me at the moment, every car seems to have to be bigger than the last model, Chris Harris says the latest M5 is too big for UK roads

my old man just got rid of his brand new Cayenne GTS, mega bit of kit, but he said it was just too big for the roads and he winced every time he had to pass other cars on narrow/streets/back roads. Think even finding parking spaces big enough was a nightmare. Car lasted four months lol

Now, there is nothing at all in the line up to draw me back.

Same for me, just nothing I am interested in post 2017 from any manufacturer, quite sobering to think the best cars have already been made, many of them 10, 20 or 30 years ago. One of mine turned 40 last year, another gets historic in April.

That M5 is a feat of engineering, no doubt but not one I have any interest in driving, especially on a UK A or B road.

I popped in to Crewe Audi today, they have more than their fair share of RS3's

I counted at least 4, the one that caught my eye was a Black SB Vorsprung with red calipers and green stitching but sold as well :3sadwalk:

Had to visit the dealer this morning, this time there was no one around so took some pictures.

I think the black wheels appeared much better looking in reality, photos lose the depth.

Was on the configuration and it now seems for the Carbon Vorsprung you can add ceramic brakes electric tailgate and have the darker rims, will them options adjust on drive the deal?

I'm sorry, but £80k list price for a VS SB with buckets and ceramics?! What are Audi smoking because I want some of it. I think that's just insane for a hot hatch, they've lost their minds.

I paid £58k for my VS SB 8Y with ceramics, brand new. How is a £22k increase over 3 years justified?

Merc AMG A45 costs the same or even more, and I don't consider it as any better car.

Nuts if you ask me..........

That sort of money gets you into far better cars, imagine these used will take a big hit in depreciation.

You don't see many around, not even the facelifted car either, it's like they released it and people thought 'meh'......

And there's at least 50 listed on autotrader, with most starting to be discounted already lol......

Agreed.

I thought about getting the 8.5Y but I can’t justify the price increase for very small changes that should have been available in the original 8Y.

Will stick with mine for now.

Even the 'Legacy Edition' (which commands a £4,400 premium over the normal A45S) is £11,000 cheaper than the RS3 fully kitted up. Bonkers on both sides, but unfortunately seems that Audi is taking the mick even more.

Go look at the RS4 edition 25 prices on AT and make sure you are sitting down lol
That's another one I think is bonkers. That being said, if the RS3 is currently £80k for top spec I imagine the RS5 Avant that's coming will be somewhere near to this special edition price. Can't see you getting much change from £110k...

What a shame the direction they have gone

Just had a look, I understand it’s a premium product but like you said. I would have to consider other brands for the price point.

That RS4 platform is old tech now.

I started a thread about the Configurator 'changing' I asked the dealer about this as it would really pizz me off if a (desirable to me) option became available after I placed my order, his reply was they alter it as parts become more plentifull

Plus they want £150 for a painted wheel over the diamond cut verion :tearsofjoy: :tearsofjoy:

For that price your looking at potentially used m3/m4 facelift lol. Have to agree the list price is way too much and these will take a hit massively. Just would be interesting to know what discount would be given. Seems like the configurator keeps changing. Next we will have an option to remove the plastic near the gear selector for carbon lol.

Interesting those prices. I checked the German Audi site, they have new RS4's and S5 Avants available for the same price. The special editions of the RS4 are almost 1.5 times the price of the base cars, but you can choose between them and the S5 whichever you want to buy for the same money.

RS4 is an old platform yes, so better buy one now that you still can. Less electronic stuff all around and a user interface with real buttons and physical HVAC controls. And build quality, the lack of which isn't hidden behind the huge screens and piano black plastic that causes so much sun glares you're in trouble trying to see the road you're trying to keep your overpriced car on.

Each to their own but I looked at one with carbon today at the dealer and I just don't like it.

I'm collecting on the 3rd of March.

@Aid7072 I did look for your car today but couldn't see it and felt that I couldn't go walkabout on my own.

In the end carbon wasn't for me either, actually changed my order from carbon to the gloss black version after looking at a pre facelift car.

I have had gloss black on various cars and I like it, plus paying over £3k for carbon and different wheels seemed a bit extreme, again down to personal preference.

Thanks for looking out for my car and I'm hoping my car is still there somewhere , the video I was sent was from when it just arrived.Once I confirmed I wasn't collecting until March it was moved to a compound they have.

They have a Merlin Purple and a Daytona Grey Vorsprung Carbon (both Sportback) also waiting for collection.

Not normally a fan of black cars but this caught my eye, I never liked the rear spoiler, it looks sort of 'stuck on' but I thought the car being black made the carbon spoiler more part of the car

That's the issue I had when ordering with Daytona Grey and carbon, the carbon parts blended in with the paint and seemed to get lost.

Blacks the only colour that works with these wheels IMO and colour I’d consider
I wish the option of the 5 spoke wheels from the Launch, Carbon and Vorsprung model was available on the facelift Vorsprung

I had a weekend/nice day R8 in black, it's hard work to keep a black car looking good in the summer months never mind this time of year.

I was washing my Tango red RS3 yesterday, good power wash, then snowfoam (which I think is a complete con) another power wash then a bucket and microfibre hand mit and in the afternoon Sun there were still some swirl marks,
I was thinking 'I wonder how that black RS3 that caught my eye would look' ......

I thought maybe metallic black wouldn't show the swirls and scratches as clearly as the plain black. Wrong! After the first ever wash I noticed that even a towel was enough to cause minor scratches. It looks great from normal distances but taking a closer look is painful.

Have you tried Bilt Hamber Touchless? I thought like you but been using it a while and this time of year it is priceless. I spray all 3 of our dailies with one lance full, 5 minutes wait by the time I have finished the third, first one is ready to power wash off. Second coat of foam, light agitate with a mitt and final wash off. Done.

Bit of a faff getting the pressure washer out but haven't needed 2 buckets in a while now. Did ours yesterday in the brief bit of clear weather between biblical storms.

No I have been using Autoglym Polar snow foam, tbh after the initial power wash the snow foam 'wash/soak' doesnt appear to be doing much

Don't want to turn this into a detailing thread, as I'm sure there is a place in this forum for that :tongueclosed: but I have found the foam seems to work best on a dry car, seems to eat into the grime better. I have found the touchless markedly better than the autoglym stuff as I used to use that too. Daily was pretty bad (couldn't read the number plate) and 90% came off with the first power wash after the foam. I use a rinse bucket for the mitt of it is bad or a lot to do but that's it. Lots of ways to peel a cat but I saw that method on one of the detailing channels and it just works well for me. Minimum hands on the car and less up and down into the buckets for my back. Good all round:icon thumright:
