8.5Y RS3

The front of the facelift looks like it's melting....lol and the rear sticks right out like a big a**e.....and those terrible wheels :puke2:
I don't want to constantly criticise what they've done because the changes are minimal enough that I'm relatively indifferent to it overall and there are some changes I actually quite like, but I just can't get my head around the changes to the front grille and rear diffuser.

The rear because of all that plastic, but to your point, the front also seems to still out an inordinate amount too? check out these shots of it

Thats funny, I just saved a picture very similar to your post, I was going to suggest the RS3 had been to a back street beauty Salon and had an extreme dose of Lip Fillers

Horrible isn’t it. It’s like they wanted to make the car look longer lol.

Nice, but wouldn't say I feel to disheartened to drive about in my pre FL.

To be honest I am not disheartened to be driving round in my 8V, quite a relief I didn't sell it when prices were stupid. Would be kicking myself now.

I like the front but intereseting to see how big difference there's between grey and black body colour especially in what the front looks like. In grey it looks nicely accentuated but black makes everything look quite monotonous and even shrinks the car visually somehow.

Age old thing, if you like the details, order the car in a colour, if you don't then order it in black, hides all the details. Not lost on me that first shots I saw of the new M2 were in black, didn't think it looked too bad until I saw it in that blue.

What? You mean there is no future in selling cars to people that can't afford them and don't ever have them serviced??

GOOD! Absolute cowboys there! Sold me a car without disclosing it had been in an accident a week before I was due to collect it. In fairness, they did clear the negative equity on it after a year but it shouldn't have happened in the first place.

That doesn't surprise me, Imagine how many RS3's etc Test drove/ ragged around those streets with zero intention of being bought.........

True, but strangely enough there's always money available for 'modifications' from Ali babba express........

One of the comments made me laugh "Instead of selling A1's, there should've been more RS3's / SQ5's available to test drive" Innit Bro......

Mine's black and I think it still showcases the design pretty well. Chrome surrounding on the grille and some grey accent parts help a lot. Using lots of black accents on details kind of rules out the black body colour.

I actually like the depth of the black grille surrounding part there. It's an opposite to what's wrong (the most) in the current BMW M3/4 front grille design: the lower part isn't three dimensional enough, it just has those narrow lines of body colour there, that make it look like the grille has melted and fallen down and the plastic sides just stretched along. Again it looks better in black which hides that appearance.

The large new car Tax increase won’t do things many favours either.

has anyone picked up there new cars yet ?

mine is due at the dealer next week,

when I ordered mine, the vorsprung had every option, I believe this included the comfort rear boot closing,

I see this is now a payable option on the website, that 100 % was not an option when I placed the order
I was actually wondering if anyone had fallen into this, where they ordered before it was removed. I'd like to think that yours will have it, given it was on there for the 8Y VS spec and wasn't an additional option for the SB cars until the last week or so. I'd be raging if it rocks up without it...

I've decided to leave mine at the dealership until March, didn't expect it to arrive so quickly and due to commitments this month I'd struggle to find time to make the 800 mile round trip to collect it and don't see the point getting it in January 8 weeks before a reg change.

Dealer sent a video of the car in their compound still with the transport wraps on and happy with what I've seen of the car.

Saw a green saloon in the showroom today. Now I honestly think it's fantastic, front is good and the rear diffuser didn't look too oversized in the flesh. Wheels were the black Y shaped ones, looked fine and fitted the body colour better than the other ones more discussed here. It had the bucket seats, for me they felt quite good, I keep my own seat tilted at the same angle and I'm a rather slim guy so they didn't squeeze too much, but couldn't say if they were comfy enough for longer trips.

BUT the black grille surroundings already had some polish marks on them! There's absolutely no other option than ppf all the black parts asap, otherwise they will look horrible after few months and several washes.

Anyone know when that became a payable extra?
I ordered a Vorsprung on 27th November but the spec sheet for the car doesnt say wheather it has it or not?
I thought the reason for the Vorsprung model was that it had every option going?

Local dealer has a Carbon Vorsprung SB. It has a manual boot.

That would really pizz me off if I 'upgraded' to the facelift, you tend to expect a newer model of what you have to come with the same spec as your current car.

There are a couple of features that at the time I wouldn't have selected when I bought my SB Vorsprung

First is the comfort access tailgate

Second the memory seats with me and wifey sharing the car

Third the Matrix headlights :)

But all of those would now come pretty much as a 'must have'

100% on this. I'd never had an electric tailgate or matrix headlights but they are both super useful. They way the main beam leaves pools of darkness around the other cars is genuinely genius.

The one I'll always wonder about is the 360 cameras. They sound very helpful for parking and alloy preservation but I've never experienced that on any other car so hard to say how useful it is in practice.

I've driven few cars with the 360 cameras and have very mixed feelings about them. They might be useful in some very tight places but you need to be extra careful with them. As the view is compiled from several static cameras, some objects at the far ends of the lens cones may look insignificant at first but then pop up massively, and getting the distances right can be nearly impossible. And when some of the cameras are dirty then it's just a mess. I think while a basic reversing camera provides less info, there's also less problems. And of course there are lots of different executions of the 360 cameras, some are better and some far worse. I wouldn't pay extra for them without trying them first.

It’s correct, the first ones have a manual boot, not ideal but not really a big deal
That depends on your circumstances, in our situation with a dog the comfort access would now actually be a deal breaker.

Some of my 'must haves' on a new RS3 would be
Matrix lights
Memory seats
Comfort access
Adaptive cruise ( that became a must have after a series of VW Golfs inc R )

I can take or leave the Pan roof, very nice and bright but too noisy at anything over about 30mph

I keep looking at M3 Touring but I struggle big time with the looks, I would then need 'Tech pack plus' and 'Visibility Pack' to get the must haves and then the service costs put the final nail in the coffin for me

Collected my car yesterday, it was back within the hour as an issue with the mmi, they say it’s fixed with a factory reset but I’m in 2 minds to reject the car, not ideal at all
That's not good, I'm collecting from a dealership 400 miles from home so not so easy to take it back although it doesn't stop me rejecting it.

What was the issue?

Mine came off the boat at Grimsby on the 1st Jan so we'll see how long takes them to get it , fingers crossed it's all ok

Cars are complex things these days.

Mine had an MMI glitch after 300 miles in Jan last year which seemed to sort itself after switching off and back on again after 30 mins and ive not had a problem since, apart from the occasional pre-sense restriction popping up which I think has been down to weather. Personally, I'd view an MMI issue as an inconvenient but relatively minor thing compared to a mechanical for example! My 8V actually had a bad bearing when I first got it now I think about it which was a 30 min fix in the end, luckily.

Hopefully it's a relatively straightforward thing to sort, it would be a shame for that to be the reason for declining it.

Bigger discounts.
I’m guessing the March tax rise of £3300 on a new car won’t do sales much good.

I'm just not sure why they ended up matching the black gloss everywhere with silver wheels. I know there are matte grey options, as well as the previous 5-Y-shape rims in matte black from the PFL (which I think suit the car perfectly), but it's a shame there is no matte black option for the 10-cross-spokes to complement the rest of the car
