8.5Y RS3

But you lose full leather and electric adjustment and memory to both seats and mirrors.

I must admit there were a few things that I thought I could do without on my SB Vorsprung, one was the memory seats but with Wifey also using the car just getting in and pressing the 1 button instread of back/forth/up/down is wonderfull (it should work off which key you have as well but thats hit and miss tbh)
I find with electric seats as I've had three cars with them once I've set them and don't use them again but I'm suppose I'm lucky I'm the only one that drives me car , so it doesn't bother me that I'm losing electric seats

I also garage my car at night and slide the seat back for easier access etc, I honestly thought WTF do I need those for when I ordered the car but, they would now be on my 'must have' list in a new car, as would adaptive cruise and Matrix lights :)

When I purchased my 8V RS3 in 2017, it was possible to track the order status.
Is that still a thing?

How many weeks prior to being built does the build week become confirmed and stop changing? The last few BMs I've had were confirmed for build 3 to 4 weeks prior to the build week, at that point no changes could be made.

Surely there becomes a point where the week stops moving, it has to or they would struggle to plan production.

When I ordered my 8V in 2016 you could track it daily online. When I ordered my 8Y in 2021 that option was withdrawn. Presumably blamed on Covid/semiconductor shortages. I assume it's still not available but not sure.

VW also used to let you track your order online but like Audi it was withdrawn in 2020/21, trying to figure out if my week 46 build is likely to go ahead that week.

Today I've had an update that my car is still build week 46 and has been accepted/confirmed for build by the factory for that week.

I can no longer make any changes to my order since it is too close to the production week.

Mine was confirmed week 49 and then changed to week 47 confirmed, let’s see
According to the dealer once it's factory accepted and locked in a few weeks before build then it does go ahead on the scheduled build week, makes sense or production planning would be impossible.

From previous experience this is how VW and BMW both work also.

Within the next 3 weeks my car will either be built or not so I'll know one way or another.

Just pop on to YouTube and type his name in :) probs on for 9pm

When they did the FL reveal vids a couple of months back they appeared at 11pm (midnight in central Europe eg Munich) so could possibly be the same tonight.

And Top Gear's own version too. A couple of interesting passages here, I thought, for differing reasons:

"Audi has fiddled with the software to open up the exhaust flaps at lower rpms. There’s also a new ‘emotional engine start’ option that should help you wake the neighbours each morning if you don’t get on."

And:

"Weirdly, in the pre-facelift car the Sportback hatch felt a bit keener on the twisty stuff, and the saloon a tad better at high-speed stability, but that could be simply preconception – it’s the same gear underneath."

You can get an "Emotional Start" on the PreFL as well but the engine needs to be hot. If you have it in RS Performance and give it a little throttle upon starting you get all sorts of pops and bangs.

Ah yes, I've done that occasionally when the engine's hot for the odd cheap thrill I hadn't realised that's what it was called though as I'm not sure I'd say I get emotional at it!

Yeah I was just using the new term from the Top Gear review.

On the 8V PreFl all the starts were epic.

Good luck to those getting the facelift. Looking forward to the pix.

I think that term came from Mercedes as they have a specific setting called 'emotion start' that came in post OPF

My saloon build is the previous week, are you going to collect your car in December or wait until March?

I did plan to wait until March but things have moved quicker than expected with dealer expecting the car by mid December so undecided what to do.

No decision to actually make until the car is built and in the uk.

I'm not sure that the dealer will wait from December until March - I've tried to extend delivery before and I have only managed a week or two.
My last car took 7 weeks from the start of build until it arrived at the dealer.
Based on that, it should arrive in early January but I will just have to wait and see and then decide what to do about collection.

These are incredibly short lead times.
My 8V took something like 11 months and my 8Y was 8 months I think.
They must have really got their act together.

Am I right in saying both our orders are both through Peterborough Audi?

When I originally ordered it was agreed they would hold my car until March if it turned up early, I discussed this again with them a week ago and they are still willing to keep it in their compound until March should I choose.

It was mentioned that they have done this in the past for numerous customers.

I was surprised they agreed, in the past it is not something BMW or VW have been willing to do.

No, mine is coming via Bury St Edmunds

I think all parts shortages and constraints have finished, some of the waits from 2020 onwards were ridiculous

...or demand is low.
Salesman I'm dealing with has 10 cars on his books, apparently demand was better than expected so Audi removed the £1500 finance deposit contribution after a couple of days

My last 3 Audis, 2xS3, 1xRS3 have always taken longer than 6 months.
This is a bit of a surprise.
Are you dealing with Lee at BSE?
I might ask if they will delay until March too.

No I'm dealing with Ben, my order was originally through Drive the Deal before being amended so its possible that the same person in the dealership deals with those orders.

I spoke to someone at DTD before placing my order to see if the car could be held until March, they said they would get confirmation off the dealer and get back to me which they did.Once I had placed my order and heard from Ben he confirmed that they had been asked to hold my car until March and would do so if that's what I continued to want.

I cannot see why they would not hold your car for you until March should it turn up in January, if mine appears in December I'm unsure what I'll do.

Against all expectations the RS3 became available in my country today. The pretty decent basic spec costs about 94k€, of course a fully loaded is far beyond 100k. After seeing the infernal price of the S3 I thought the RS3 wouldn't come here at all since it would basically cost over 100k so there'd be no point to even bother the salesmen... Maybe we'll even get a few more cars here in addition to those three-or-so pre-FL ones. I think there might be some customers thinking the S3 was too expensive for what it is, but the RS3 price is now so close to it that it will make it.

Well, sometimes the reality can surprise - the one S3 in a local showroom didn't sit there for long before it got bought, even thought I thought they won't get it sold at that price at all.

Mine is Farnborough Audi, as others have said, demand is already high and suspect the delays will come further down the line, as the facelift, they will want some on the road ASAP, like they did fir the 8y, it was about 12 months later when order books were full, this will most likely happen again
At the launch of the 8Y RS3 the order books surprised Audi and it was complete chaos with no reasoning behind any kind of first come first served, I was lucky, I ordered mid Sept 21 (launch was August) my build week eventually came through at week 12-22, which reduced twice to eventualy week 4 (IIRC) some who ordered within the first week got their cars nearly a year later, some cancelled.

Look at the Tracker, go to about page 24 and compare the week orderd to BW, it's just randon chaos

Good news!
The dealer has said that March collection is not a problem - which is a relief as it gives me longer to mentally prepare for selling my 8V.
