Hi,

Apologies if this is in the wrong section etc but not sure where else to ask. Earlier today I accidentally kerbed my rear offside wheel but whilst doing that it also pinched the tyre and a small section has peeled off. If I take it to a tyre place they’ll tell me to replace it because they want the money but I’d rather not fork out unnecessarily. From the photo does this tyre seem dangerous and need replacing or is it fine? The bit that’s peeled off is a few mm thick.

Kind regards,
Joe

I can admit to "repairing" that sort of "peeling" back of sidewall material using a suitable rubber glue, if you do that, make a proper job of it to avoid MOT comments/advisory.

The side wall material is quite thick - well in my mind thick enough to be able to tolerate that damage and still retain full strength.

I'm sure that you know that you should tidy up the scuffed wheel and paint it to avoid corrosion taking hold.

Hi Joe, it's understandable to be concerned about your tyre. If the damage is only a few mm thick and there are no visible cords or structural issues, it might be okay. However, for safety, it's best to consult a professional who can assess it in person. Drive safely!
