I know this has been covered a number of times. My B9 Allroad has tinted rear windows from factory and the rear window is less practical than the B8, I’m seriously considering retrofitting a camera. There’s also a factory fitted towbar.

I dropped by the main dealer on Saturday, so the main camera and wiring is £290, plus they reckon 4 hours (£178 an hour) to fit including coding. From what I’ve read you need Odin. I have VCDS by the way.

If I could understand this guy I’d be sorted. Probably best video out there as how to. https://munteanubogdan.com/english/retrofit-reversing-camera-audi-a4-b9/

So here’s my dilemma, I think I have the skills to route the wiring (fixing a panoramic on my old B8 has shown me a thing or too) , then put it to Audi for the coding. If you’re screaming at me right now, whats the alternative, find a bespoke retrofit installer I trust with my car and just pay £550.

Just looking back at my post. Life got in the way between work, family and weather, as this isn’t a straight forward job as I’m doing it on the drive. I got the genuine VAG kit back in December from the main dealer. Anyway, I thought, weather was decent today, too hot if I’m honest, emptied the boot and started to remove the trim.

Trim dismantle was straight forward, except the actual boot release micro-switch. It’s basically fit once only given it clips into place on the tailgate, so added a little WD40 and used trim tools, but I’ll be honest, that part was a pain in the **** to remove.

Opened the box and inspected the wiring. Now on the B9, you’re going from a two pin cable on standard boot switch (live and earth I assume) to a 5-pin cable. I removed the wires from the existing cable feed, but stopped. This cable feed works on B9.5 with rear camera wash which I don’t have. Any indication of what wiring goes where? On the new 5 cable feed, wiring is red/black/brown/blue and another red wire. The existing 2-pin feed is brown and a brown and yellow wire. I’m assuming brown and yellow was 12v power. Again, should have had my multimeter at the ready. I could strip out the existing 2 pins, but looking at the plastic connector, it wasn’t apparent how you were meant to add them to what was basically an 8-port fitment.

Now bear in mind, there’s no instructions. In addition, what I believe is the canbus optical cable on a Westfalia (one black and one white wire), but no indication of what goes where? The canbus wires were orange/grey and orange/brown. I figured out how to add them to the 2-pin connector but no idea what goes where.

Rather than disable the car, I reassembled everything. Couple of options, seek out a pro who can do it, or persevere.

Any pointers please if you’ve done this job?

Car was on trickle charge on battery charger while I was doing the work, as boot and door open.

First picture is existing power supply to boot micro-switch. Second on is cable from new camera boot handle with 5 wires. Third one is what I assume is canbus optical switch connected to the loom. No idea what wires go where. I dismantled again.

Just closing this thread. I got AV Adaptions in Aberdeen to do the work. So rear reversing camera now installed and satellite navigation updated to 2025 maps. Can thoroughly recommend Adam if you're north of the wall and looking for retrofit work to be done. Next project is enabling front headlight washers.
