News of the DOJ bringing a class action lawsuit against Apple in the US. You would think that will not affect anyone not in the US but as we all know when the US sneezes we all catch a cold. Just another meaningless and utterly misguided action by a pretty ineffective department and totally without merit.

I totally get all those who say that Apple has a 'walled garden' that ties in the users and makes it impossible to leave without jumping through some considerbale hoops and that they have the marketshare in the US on smartphones and this is thus a monopoly.
So if they use that as some form of measurement, then how come Microsoft having the marketshare of the desktop operarting systems is not classed as a monopoly and would need a class action lawsuit ? As a consumer I made the decision to use an iPhone and it was my very first smartphone back in the day. I am very happy with my choice and have friends who perfer Android. I also am a mac user ( even before there were macs but that is just showing my age :) ) but in my job I use both and couldnt care less as long as they do the job I need.

I do not need some meddling bunch of idiots saying their action will improve my choice as a consumer and make it more competative. ********. It is just another attack on big tech and them bearting their chests to justify their job role. The average person on the street couldnt give a flying ****. US DOJ , you are not acting on my behalf.

They are just hanging onto the coat tails of another stupid organisation, the EU commssion who also think they are acting in our interests.

Rant over, phew feel muc better, thanks :)

Actually you seem to have a rant over stuff you don't fully understand... Let me try and explain the reason why they are to stop Apple's Monopoly.... Apple doesn't allow people to create software for their platform without them handing over a considerable amount of money for the certificate and the developers suite that is needed to have certified api's talking to their software and hardware. This used to be the same with their MAC's but eversince they started using the same hardware as windows PC's thuis has kinda come to a stop, as befoe you couldn't install windows on a MAC or install MAC os on a PC.

Now if you are wondering how far Apple has taken this with their iPhones... they use the same hardware as older Andriod phones yet their pocessors are slower but the software makes it look sleek... But even if you'd try to take an iphone without software ad try to run Andriod on it it will not work... basically their chips use propriatry certificactes instead of open source which inturn closes down the development of software available on the platform (only people with enough money can get a chance to create software because of those certificates). This means that most developed software is from the manufacturer, compatibility with other things (OBD2 bleutooth per example is just one of the things that isn't widely available for the platform because of this use of certificates) is limited this way and thus corners of the rest of the market.

Now let's talk about the fact that they slowdown, connections to non Iphone devices on purpose and you are slowly getting what they are on about. Share a picture to an andriod phone and one to a Iphone at the same time dealy is more than 1 minute... why? because they do it on purpose.

I used to work in IT as a specialist network systems and software engineer and have ran into this monopoly BS on several occasions needing to buy certain hardware just to get IOS stuff to work properly in a normal PC environment... And i knew when they said they where making a mobile phone back in the day it would be the same.

Yes i'm all for creating something new and making sure the lot is safe to use ( something the open source andriod systems can't boast about) but intentionally keeping it cornered off is BS and keeps the prices high for no reason at all.

Maybe now you get what they are on about and you might re-adjust your view on the subject... as basically by doing what they are doing they are taking their lower specced iphones and selling them for premium prices because it is fully compatible with only their systems. Even Samsung had to open their closed of wearable devices and the matching software to be able to be used by every one...let alone having to make their hardware available to others ( oled is a samsung invention and the list goes on)

First off I do understand and thus no need to try to explain to me. I have been in the IT industry for over 25 years and run my own IT company. In my day to day work, I use a variety of systems and have been across the complex nature of programming/networking and systems for quite some considerable time.
I know exactly why they ( Apple ) do what they do and how they have carefully engineered this environment .

So now we have that sorted, my actual rant and rave was about why certain oprganisations/departments around the work feel the need to thump their chests and pass legislation all under the guise of benefitting us consumers. Its as if they feel we cannot make up our own choice.

Anyway I have had my rant for the day so carry on.

LOL nah the rules should apply to everyone... I wouldn't mind going back to a time when people when people weren't easily offended(and there were only 2 sexes)
My view on this subject would be similar to yours if Iphones would be as ground breaking as their Mac OS and their Mac pc's were in the early days, using faster more reliable hardware and came as complete as them but that simply isn't the case.

Not that I'm saying they should loose their Iphone user base, i'm saying they should be more compatible with non Iphone stuff, ( infrastucture related and user related)

Oww and FYI i've been in IT for 30 years (certified and all) and only recently had to stop because of life chucking some serious spanners in the works.
Your point i get but someone has to start questioning it for them to ever make a change it was the same with the Mac's...
