2018 plate RS3 with sport exhaust. 43k miles.
Recently started this infuriating squeak coming to low speed and again when picking up speed. At first I thought it was something to do with the brakes but I’m positive now that it’s the exhaust valves squeaking when opening/closing. Has anyone found a fix for this or will I need to replace part of the exhaust? No warranty on car.

Set them to be fully open by whichever method you want, then see if it disappears, usually people use some wire on the arm's.

It’s the pivot points that usually squeak

You’ll need a solvent with graphite type of lube to put on them.
I believe you can use Krytox to do this.

Thanks, I can see that on my car, excuse my lack of knowledge but how would I manage to get into there to lubricate it?

from the outside where I circled you’ll see the pivot pin and the hole it’s sat in.

Think of it like a door hinge arrangement.

Yeah seen it now.

Gonna use graphite and alcohol tomorrow and see if that helps.

Cheers for your help

Avoid WD40 as it will just attract dirt / dust build up.

Timco sell a graphite lock lubricant.

Basically a spray you use and the solvent evaporates leaving behind the graphite.

Hi, I've got the same issue. Every time the valves open and close (which is very often in my car - not sure if that's normal) I hear the annoying squeak. Wanted to ask if this solved your issue?

It's probably not quite the same issue/answer, but I've just had to deal with this on an RS4.

As a follow up to the original post. I solved the issue at the time but it came back again this week in the warmer weather. It’s solved again. I used a can of GT85 which seems to work really well. I’ve attached photos of where to aim the lubricant. The photos aren’t the clearest but I hope you can see what I mean. A kind previous poster on this thread highlighted the pivot point where the issue seems to stem from. You need to get the lubricant in from the top tho.

If you’re looking directly at the sport exhaust, just above that there’s a small opening under the diffuser that you can see into. From there you can see the electronics that open and close the valve. There’s a pin that comes up from the bottom pivot point that a previous commenter circled, up into the electronic switch.

Just below the electronic bit, there’s a metal clip that goes around the upper part of the pivot pin. You want to get plenty of lubricant into there. I hope the photos show what I mean.

That’s looking at drivers side exhaust (uk) then you need to get your hand with the can of lubricant in behind the drivers rear wheel

If you took this issue to Audi, their solution is to replace the whole back box.

A lot of money saved this way.

You guys are heros! Did the rear discs and brakes today so I thought I'd try the above whilst I had the car jacked up. It worked thankfully. No more high pitched squeaking every time the flaps open/close.

A spray which cost me £8 worked whilst Audi told me 2 years ago that the only solution would be a new exhaust. Crazy!

Brilliant mate!

I think the key is to do it regularly to avoid it seizing properly and don’t use WD40.
