I have recently bypassed the A/C pulley on my 3.0 ASN petrol v6. The correct belt type is 6PK1670 (that's 1670mm long). Bought mine from Cat Automotive near Whitstable, Kent (behind the big Tesco). Excellent team in there who were very patient and understanding with my wants to put a non-standard belt on my car. Excellent service and I will be using them again for sure.
No need to take the front off, or even put the front into 'service position'. Just a 19mm spanner to release the tension and a steady and careful approach.
The belt goes on nicely and sits well under the tensioner. Took me about 15 minutes to fit and made me swear loads, but after much fiddling and cussing the belt went on nicely and now my car is back on the road for less than £30.
I know this is a frequently covered topic, but tips for cars with the 3.0 petrol ASN engine aren't common, so I hope this helps someone else who finds themselves in a similar tight spot and needs to bypass their aircon.
