I had a warning saying low oil put in 1.25l drive to workshop. Something along those lines. Went to Halfords . They said I needed 0 20 oil so put 2 litres in. Now I have never used that oil before. Anyway after putting in the oil I had a fault warning when checking the oil level. Opened boot tightened cap and now am getting oil full warning reduce oil. I don't think I have too much oil as last time I looked I was just under half way on the oil level meter. I have no idea what is goibg on. How do I actually reduce oil. Does the S4 have a dipstick for manually checking levels

Can I ask why you put 2 litres in when the car said 1.25L? Of course it’s now going to be overfilled!

Only way to get it out is drain from the sump or someone with a suction device that goes down the dipstick tube (yes it’s there but there’s a cap on it).

I was not thinking straight as i have often topped up more than 2 litres

It's odd as I checked again and warning has gone then checked again and it's there again. Is it safe to drive to local garage to get the excess out.

Would any of these devices work or can I drive to local garage

Also best to fill up in 0.5L intervals.

The digital oil level on the MMI doesn’t always give an instant reading when topping up. I’m sure you have to drive or start engine up until it gets hot and then leave it 2 mins before it gives a reading.

Oil expands about 5% when hot as well. That way it tell you to check it when warm and not cold.

Anyway those Siphon pumps will be no good as the tubes aren’t rigid enough.

You need a proper oil extraction pump. Also best to do it once engine is warm as oil will suck out easier/quicker.

I don‘t want to make your bad day worse but the diesel S4 should have 0W30 not 0W20, best get it all out.
